How many guns do you need to own before you are a certified gun nut?

You have over 4000 posts on a gun forum:D

This might be a start:rolleyes:

Does that picture have a sound track to go with?

Funny, I never heard of a "tool nut." Sure you can do 90% of what needs doing with a hammer, pliers and an adjustable wrench (and duct tape of course) but it's nice to have the right tool for the job. Guns are tools, each one for a specific "job." And there are a lot of jobs around the house and everywhere else. Joe

Yes, you can be a gun nut even if you own one. But what is the range when you are certifiable? I have 19 (rifles, shotguns, revolvers, and 1 pistol).

Curious how large the collections are out there.

I believe the official number is 19.:D Oh, what? Sorry!:o

Heck, I'm just a nut. At least that's what my liberal "friends" say. Guns have very little to do with it. They say I'm a nut because I believe in God, the Bill of Rights (all of it), secure borders, legal immigration, getting the government out of my personal decisions, absolute freedom unless I hurt someone else in the process, low taxes, color blindness, drastically curtailed federal spending, term limits, a strong national defense, not being the world's police force, personal defense, speaking English in America, not disarming law-abiding citizens while they travel, workable checks and balances in government, excellent bourbon and good marriages between a man and woman (mine has lasted 50 years so far). I'm sure I've left out a few things, but those are the highlights and I guess you get my drift. Yeah, I admit it. I'm a nut to believe in these things. And I hope I'm not standing alone during the 2012 elections.

Once you have a gun for every type hunting you do, plus the ones you need for defense, plus one for all hobbys like skeet, trap, or whatever, when you get a bunch above those basics, you might be a gun nut.

Probably a few less than I have...

I don't think of myself as a collector-I have bought and sold various guns I thought were interesting for over 40 years now, and I am sure I am in the several hundredsover that time. I have mostly handguns now, 7 of them S&W's.

I have only 1 and it is not mine its issued by the county.I hate it so much I leave it outside on the step.I cant have a evil killing machine like a gun in my home.I almost cry knowing its even near me.

Please don't cry, little one. It's going to be OK. Is the gun on the front step or the back? Where do you live? :)

I feel the need to confess some more on this –

I have bought guns because a girlfriend said it was her or the guns…

I have bought guns that were possibly going to be banned by political agenda garbage before prices shot up…

I have bought guns only because I found a good deal on ammo and didn't have a gun to shoot it…

I have bought guns because I found a good deal on brass and didn't have a gun to shoot my reloaded ammo I started making…

I have bought guns since I had an interest in some new to me ammo design like the .357 Sig…

Now my madness has me buying bullet molds that I like when I don't even have a gun chambered for that bullet…

I'm not sure how it will get worse than that…

Oh, and the current girl likes that I own guns and has even bought a few for herself now.

For the unbiased uniformed... maybe more than one. For the left-wing whatever's, even one is to many. But for people who are informed, etc., i.e., rational people... an arbitrary number is just, well, arbitrary.

You see this is why you need a bunch of guns, having 20 or 30 or 200 helps you get over this fear, kind of like the reverse of aversion therapy. When you realize that the bunch of guns in your safe and the one by your bedside and the one on your hip aren't going to hurt you you sleep better.

I think when you put on a jacket you havent worn in a while, instead of being gleefully happy that you found a $20 bill, it's a gun.

Actually down here, we don't have certification. It's covered by the state. You just tell the Brady-hugger "I'm from Texas." and they roll their eyes, mumble "un-huh." and usually walk away.

I think it has more to do with how much time you spend thinking about and studying guns and gun related stuff than with the actual number you own. I've been a gun nut ever since I can remember, my dad was fresh out of the Marines when I was little, and I had the most awesome arsenal of toy guns you can imagine. He had a Beretta Minx he'd let me handle, it seemed big way back then. My Grandma would take me to the little shooting gallery that used to be here, starting at about age six, and I'd get to shoot real rifles, Browning Autos with a gallery load. When I was nine, we moved to SE Alaska, that's when I started shooting seriously. I read everything gun related I could get my hands on, and writers like Elmer Keith, Jeff Cooper, Col. Charles Askins, and Jack O'Conner were my favorites. I bought my first rifle from a neighbor when I was eleven, it was a 7.65 Argentine Mauser. I paid 30 bucks for it, and killed my first two deer with it. I've never NOT been a "gun nut".

To the looney left, if you like guns and think it's OK for "normal" folks to have them, you are a "gun nut." You don't have to own any at all. Joe

My wife says I'm certified,

Or was that certifiable?
So I can tell you exactly how many.
You need to have - wait, I gotta answer the phone...

Enough that your wife can't tell when you add another one to "the collection". :D
