Interesting, 4 AK's and only one AR. Whats the story?
People dont give them enough credit and assume they are all inaccurate ***'s that are only good to 100 yards and are basically bullet hoses meant for fun and ammo waste. The three 7.62 AKs I have shoot center mass at 300 yards with open sights with quality ammo (PPU, Yugo surplus, and a few others) Wolf ammo is minute of man at 300. I avg about 2-3 moa at a 100 which is about what you get with 99% of Legacy battle rifles (G3, FAL). And those were/are considered "Ooohh so great" and they are in their own ways. AKs have a different manual of arms.
The three 7.62 AKs are
1. Arsenal SBR with an 8in barrel
2. Norinco MAK90 converted back to AK config
3. Norinco 56S underfolder
The 4th is the AK74 in 5.45x39. This one is also a Norinco but has its own story. Was originally a Norinco 84S, the 5.56 cal. Back in the mid 80s the owner had it converted to 5.45 cal buy having the front end (barrel gas block, piston, bolt carrier and bolt) from a Bulgarian 5.45 installed. The rear is a folding stock, Russian 100 series and the trigger is all Russian as well. This was prior to the 922r laws and the whole rifle is 100% military parts. Nothing US made in it.
Before everyone goes blasting on Chinese stuff the Norinco's were/are actually very well built quality AKs. Not to be confused with Chinese WalMart goods. Like the Russian Saiga the Norinco civilian AK was built using the same parts and on the same assembly line as their military AKs. Only The receivers lacked the 3 hole for full auto sear. I actually did not specifically seak out Norinco's. It just kinda happened that they were all priced right. The MAK90 was just over $400. The 56S under folder was preban, unfired, new in wrapper with accessories for $600! Check on Gunbroker, they go for at least a $1000 used.
My Colt is the 6721. The Hbar version. When benched the Colt is much more accurate, no if's, ands, or buts about it. My groups are cut in half. Open sights I get about 1.5moa @ 100. But I dont do much benching. I only ever bench if Im trying a new bullet or sighting in a rifle. None of my AKs or AR have any kind of optic. Im more into run and gun type shooting and when I do that I find that Im about the same with the AK and the Colt.
Here is a friend of my shooting his AK74 @300, of hand in a heavy rain and wind
