HOW MANY GUNS TO BRING TO THE RANGE

HOW MANY GUNS?

I live close and go often, but 3 seems to be the magic # and 1 always a 22. Nothing is written in stone, But for Gods sake please have them in a case, range bag, holster or leave them home. I get nervous when an obvious inexperienced shooter, (even though he may own many guns) comes waddling up with 4-5 rifles and several pistols, with a finger in the trigger guard of course, grinding and scratching them against each other, them slipping and sweeping everyone around them. being a member and close by, it only costs me 1$/visit, so I may go for a quick 15 minutes to test 1 particular reload type bullet/powder wt. as mentioned the 22 is invaluable to calm the yips. I like to start and finish with a 22 and go to it if needed. much more than 3 and you need a wheelbarrow.

The only time I bring more than 2 is when I have someone new to firearms with me. I let them try different types to see what they like best. Otherwise one, maybe 2 guns

I acquire quite a few handguns. I generally take 4 or 5 that I have never shot before to make sure they function, and see if I like them. Other times I will take my carry gun, and my home protection gun and practice with them.

I sometimes find out things I don't like...like one of my grail guns -a first year K38 Target Masterpiece I had wanted for a long time - I really DON'T enjoy shooting it. Sometimes I will take my CZ-85 just for the pure joy of the trigger pull.

Mod's,
Please move to Lounge - posted here BEFORE coffee, sorry!

Chief, you posted a little after 11 o'clock,..for goodness sake what time is your coffee break ?..wait...you don't mean your first cup do you? Sounds a great deal like me.
. It was just pointed out to me the other day by one of my,as yet, un-retired friends that, " all you old retired b*******", always say "Good Morning" even if it is 3 o'clock in the afternoon.... I just grinned and nodded.

Last Saturday I rolled in with:

G27 - wife's EDC
XDM 4.5" .40 - my EDC
M&P .22lr - moms
627 Pro Series - dads
M&P 15T - mine

Also brought along the family, wife, mom, and dad.

250 rounds of .40
100 .38 special
50 .38 special + P
100 .357 Magnum
250 .22lr
120 .223

I have a nice hard case for the rifle which the pistols will also fit in, and a backpack that came with my old Alienware laptop for ammo, ears, and eyes.

FWIW, when I shot competition I ran a minimum of 100 rounds through each gun every week. You can't get proficient shooting a few rounds through a bunch of guns. You get proficient shooting MANY rounds through a few guns.

Live close to range-retired and go often. Since I have down sized I shoot one at a time and less than 100 rds sometimes only 50 rds. Prices and ammo availability have made this happen also.

ALL OF THEM!!!

that is just two though, i'm trying to teach myself. i should just pay for some lessons.

sd9 ve and a 10/22

I have noticed the last few years less people working on shooting skills and devoting all their time and ammo into center mass shots on silhouette targets. They roll them out to 3 yards blast a magazine thru, 7/10/15/25 yards.
there is 50 shots gone they pack up and leave.

In this time I may have taken 5 shots or so, the good part is I go over and collect all their brass. lol they certainly do not reload.

"Beware the man with only one gun!"

I only bring what i want to clean, usually my EDC and another in my rotation. i'm in the middle of the desert so i only have to drive a mile and set up my PVC target stands at my pre marked distances. AZ heat will kill you in the summer so i don't go that often, but look out when it starts getting into the 90's only like now.

now if i'm sighting in a hunting rifle it takes more equipment...table..tools...rest, etc. but i have no time limit.

then after my target session i can do all the different targets that our litterbug friends have thrown into the area...washers, dryers, etc! makes great targets, but makes me sick to see the trash out there.

cleaning is less than an hour, i don't believe in a spotless gun, you can clean them to death if not careful.

ill bring as many as i can carry usually(case holds 8) ,even if i go to a cowboy shoot ill throw in a s&w or two, you never know what will come up. ive had opportunities to show young shooters the joy of a mod 17 and ive seen impromptu grudge target matches spring up, after a match.i like to be prepared for either.
i dont usually fire every gun i bring , but i cant use them if they get left at home.
my favorite 44 comes along every trip whether it gets shot or not.
