How many have bought a firearm just because they had ammo on hand?

Sorta kinda. I won a case of .410 shells at a banquet raffle and traded a clunker 12 gauge for a Rossi version of the Snake Charmer. Handy little rat and reptile medicine.

How the heck do you wind up buying ammo that you don't have a weapon to use it ?

This is not a wise decision.

I don't buy this post.

In the long run you are going to lose money.
I've bought spam cans of surplus anything in the past if it was cheap enough. I've always found buyers for the stuff and because I bought it cheap I was able to turn a tidy profit without gouging.

My friend recently gave me 1K primers, 1 lb Bullseye, .40/10mm carbide dies, 100's of .40 casings and 3K hard cast .40 bullets that his neighbor dumped off on him when the neighbor moved.

I'm looking to buy a 610 now. What sort of kills me is that my lgs had a 4" 610 in stock months before my friend gave me the reloading stuff and I remember thinking if I only had ammo for that gun...

Years ago, when I went to my first gun show with my best friend, I bought a Model 18 for $500.00 with about 12 speedloaders, half dozen holsters, carry belts...geez it really came with everything and was like new. Boy, I was sweating, thinking: $500 for a 22?????!!!!!

My friend at the time said, just relax, you will spend far more than that on ammo as long as you own it. Yep, about 15 years later I can guarantee that. ;)

I never have. I did buy a handgun once because I had a holster for it. I guess that's a similar situation?

I can relate. I bought a rifle to stick under a spare scope I had lying around. Then I bought a different scope for the new rifle.

My SIL gave me 3 boxes of .357 Sig he mistakenly bought for his 686 during the famine. When a good deal on a Sig 239 in .357 showed up at my LGS I jumped on it, already had ammo.

Seems .357 Sig is still available though.

Consider that a blessing in disguise. 357 sig is awesome imo. As is the Sig 239. I have 2.

cough, cough, .32 Long, cough, cough....

Just today, was not at Sportsman Warehouse.
They didn't have much ammo.
But they had a good supply of 7x64.
Not if I Could only find one!
Anybody got one?

Now I usually buy ammo for a GUN I want. Next thing you know I have to get the gun to shoot the ammo.

If course it took me 27 years to be able to shoot that 7.62x54t I bought way back when!!
