how many of you have never owned a new S&W Revolver?

By and large I prefer to buy all of my guns used simply as a nod to saving money and sometimes because the particular model or variation that has caught my fancy is discontinued. When the Model 16-4 was released, I got the first one in town... that was the only new and current S&W I ever bought (about 25+ years ago.) Back in the Fall I bought a Model 60-4 that had been sitting NIB for about 20 years, owned by the son of one of my best friends. Said friend knew I was looking for one, so when son mentioned wanting to sell it, I got first dibs. Those are the only two "New" Smiths I've ever purchased.

I had to have a S&W Governor and promised the wife I'd never buy another gun if she let me have that one. Couldn't afford it, but I got it and no regrets. It is my first new weapon of any type. Now if I could talk her into a 357 snub nose. Wish me luck.

How about 1 like this....

I love S&W revolvers but have never owned a new one, however,
I have bought and traded several used ones over the years, and still do.

Never owned and probably never will own a new S&W revolver. I personally like the older Smiths. No internal locks, no MIM parts and darn sexy. Yummy

Still trying to find a prelock 686 or 586. I need a L-frame badly though.

I have only ever bought one NIB S&W revolver. I got one of those 642s w/o the lock about 5 or 6 years back. Quite happy with it. Don't much care about MIM parts as it's shot little but carried a lot. All of my other Smiths, and there are quite a few of them, were all purchased used.

I have never owned ANY revolver - though I am looking to find something in a .357/.38 special not a snub and not 8" - maybe in the 3.5" to 5"

Would prefer to get something in the $500 range - and have been looking at Ruger and S&W as the leading contenders.

Then you add in all the SA vs DA and grip styles and its all very confusing. I should probably rent a few different models and try em out first then decide.

I only own 1 revolver a model 65 357 I bought from a friend used over 30 years ago. The action is so smooth and is extremely acurite. One gun I will never part with. As others have said, the new ones are just so expensive.

S&W is was a classy gun. I have bought new and used, but I will never buy one with that stupid looking (and stupid functioning) lock. I really like some of the new guns, they tempt me. Until I see that ridiculous piece of pop-up tin by the hammer and the ugly scratch in the shape of an L on the side by the cylinder release. Then it's easy to put back down.

I don't think the OP intended this thread to be a backdoor whine about trigger locks.

at liberty: thank you

no i do not want this thread to turn into a whine or gripe about the internal lock system.

So if you want to reply to this thread don't whine or gripe about the internal lock.

To be honest, I only purchased a few handguns that were new. The rest, all used.

I have bought several new, the rest used. 1st new was a S&W 500 6.5". Try finding that used. (AS in pre 2003.) Also PC 642, 638 and 637s (Talo) Lew Horton PC 686 and Model 60 Pro Series 3". I like the PC guns S&W puts out. The majority though are used.

New Smith

In 1983 I bought a new Model 36 no dash. Seems likes I paid $86 for it and still have it. I prefer the older revolvers and my 19's are the sweetest shooters I have.

My first was a 6-1/2" 29-10 that I purchased in Feb of this year. Was disappointed when I pulled the hammer back and didn't see the iconic firing pin. Didn't stop me though. Next was a 2" 15-3 that so far is my favorite. This one fell in my lap and I couldn't turn it down.
I feel a fever coming on...
