How many on Social Security?

"Against The Wind" is a Bob Segar (and The Silver bullet Band) song.

"Runnin' With The Wind" is the Eddie Rabbitt song.

Lots of mis-information out there on what is and what isn't Social Security.

I'm on SS and am gravely concerned about the situation.

I got this month's deposit a week late, because they stopped it due to getting back some letter they sent that the post office returned as Undeliverable. or some such. I get the rest of my mail, inc. other Social Security stuff. ??

Postman probably put the letter in the wrong box and someone returned it. But it delayed my payment. The guy on the phone said it'd take 3-5 days, with the weekend getting in the way. The money arrived today. Thank goodness!

Any time anything interrupts govt. paperwork, it can be a real task to get it corrected.

BTW, my payment goes directly to my bank acct. It doesn't come by mail.

I just heard on the Today Show that SS payments may indeed be jeopardized by Nov. 1. It seems to be determined by what Congress does by Oct. 17. I'm plenty worried.

This stuff shouldn't be happening. It just really shouldn't!

I'm hoping that the politicians fear the result if people needing those payments don't get them.

Both me and the MRS, since 2008. (Both started at 62)

With the people running (AKA ruining) this country anything including a shutdown in SS is quite possible... We both worked all our life's starting at 16 and have good pensions, so we will get by this and other government sponsored adventures.

If, big if, the government hadn't dipped (read borrowed) into the SS fund there would presently be over 6 Trillion dollars in that fund and they wouldn't be able to give us more money fast enough to keep it from growing even bigger. True fact.

I'm on it I don't worry about it if it happens nothing you can do about it. This is a scare tactic from someone that is saying if you don't do what I tell you then this is what will happen. It makes one look better then the others and they are not afraid to hurt the little guy. But some are still playing golf on federal open golf courses. Trying not to bring politics into this.

Stop Worrying, AND WATCHING CABLE TV NEWS.

Washington D.C. gets concerned about MILLION MAN MARCHES.

Just Imagine if TENS OF MILLIONS of VERY OLD AND CROTCHETY & PO'D FOLKS

marching and looking FOR ABOUT 536 BUTTS to do more than JUST CHEW ON.

Ringling Brothers handles CLOWNS, this COMPLETE BUNCH SHOULD APPLY.

I and my wife are both on it. if anyone stops those payments, the political fallout will be unreal. would like to say more, but better not.

How many on Social Security?

As of TODAY!!! ME!!!;):D

Welcome junior;)

I've been receiving those hand outs for the last 5 years.
I like the idea of them sending me money for doing nothing, sort like being on;)

When I go to the super market, I always ask the cashier if they accept US currency.

If they stop sending out checks to you folks, can I stop sending them checks for my "contribution?"

Seems only fair.

The only reason - - ONLY REASON - - SS checks would not be issued would be due to voluntary action taken by the Administration to stop the the processes of printing and mailing (or transferring) them.

As I understand it, SS is not part of 'discretionary spending' & is not a budget item; therefore the lack of a 'continuing resolution' from Congress (the whole issue the shutdown revolves around) does not impact SS.

Expenditures in the United States federal budget - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Direct spending, also known as mandatory spending, refers to spending enacted by law, but not dependent on an annual or periodic appropriation bill. Most mandatory spending consists of entitlement programs such as Social Security benefits, Medicare, and Medicaid. These programs are called "entitlements" because individuals satisfying given eligibility requirements set by past legislation are entitled to Federal government benefits or services. Many other expenses, such as salaries of Federal judges, are mandatory, but account for a relatively small share of federal spending.

I took the semi-early retirement option and started collecting my social security at 63. As others have posted it's nice to get paid an allowance for doing nothing every month. Now that I'm on Medacare they deduct $132.00 for my part B insurance every month. If they don't send my S/S check this month, so I still have to send them the medacare part B payment?

My wife gets her SSDI now and I am supposed to start my SS in January. Well, guess it may not be meant to be.....never figured I would see a penny of it.
