Greetings!

In light of the current state of civil stability, for those of you that carry a semi-auto, how many magazines do you typically carry?

Thanks for participating in this survey. While I live in a state that mandates neutered magazines (10 rounds max), I am looking to get a feel for what my fellow forum members feel comfortable with.

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Typically two. If I have reason to believe that there is a better than almost zero chance that I may actually need the thing, I grab a couple of extras, and a second handgun, and a long gun. That has happened twice in 50 years. Neither had anything bad happen. For ordinary purposes one handgun and two reloads is my comfort zone.

Two moonclips... 9mm J-frame (five rounds each). I have a third in a pocket carrier (same as the other two) if I’m going somewhere where I’d want an extra, and a spare in the truck.

If that can’t get it done, I have an AR pistol with 140 rounds between what’s in it and my vest, inside my truck. If it is that bad, the J-frame should get me back to the truck.

My Semi-Auto AR-15 223Rem; 4ea 30rounders, 1ea 20rounder, 2ea 5rounders.

My Semi-Auto Ruger 1911 45ACP; 1ea 7rounder (in pistol), and 1ea 8rounder.

Threat Con determines which Magazine is loaded first. May the Force be with you!

Typically I carry the gun and 1 extra mag....occasionally 2.

I get the "If I cant solve the problem with whats in the gun" mentality...but people seem to forget magazines fail at a much higher rate than guns....

If your mag fails it doesnt really matter if you are using a Glock and 33 round mag.....It will be useless without a reload.

Plus an extra mag doesnt weigh hardly anything.....Definitely prudent to have at least one reload.

Well, depends on which area I'm going to. As a rule, one magazine in the pistol, two more on my person....48 rounds to get me out of trouble.

When I was on patrol duty I generally carried two full reloads. I have been at re-qualifications and seen a reload fail, (broken magazine or speedloader) most of the shooters just dropped the defective part. They then pulled their second reload and continued.

I EDC a Beretta PX4 Compact plus 1 spare mag. As some have said, the main reason is in the unlikely event of a malfunction. I'll add that it also helps balance out the weight on my hips.

I also typically have a BUG, a 642, and one reload in the form of a speed strip in my pocket.

Regardless of capacity, I'd carry at least one reload.

I find it easy to carry this way. YMMV.

I carry a Ruger EC9s 9mm. If I'm going to town, I carry one extra magazine. If I'm out on my property, I carry a mag full of HPs and one full of shot shells, in case I run into Mr No-Shoulders. Amazingly, the little Ruger feeds these shot shells just fine.

Working Outside......17+1 in the gun and three 17 rounders in my patrol vest plus one 30 rounder 5.56 on the vest too.

In the Office...... 17+1 in the gun and one 17 rounder on my belt and my rifle in close proximity.

Off Duty.....Sometimes 17+1 in the gun and one 17 rounder in my pocket. Sometimes 6 in the gun, 6 in my pocket. Sometimes no gun on me.

No matter what carry weapon I've always carried 2 extra magazines, just a habit for over 40 yrs. In the backpack that always accompanies me in the vehicle are 4 additional mags.
If I'm going on a trip out of the area, I usually have my CZ Scorpion Micro pistol with folding brace with me and a full complement of 6-35rd mags or my 5.56mm AR 10.5 in braced pistol with 6-30rd mags. Either of the two above are in discreet carry bags (first aid cases) on the floor directly behind my drivers seat.
