I have run right at 5000 rounds through my 15-22. The only malfunctions I have had occurred before I sent it back to S&W for the new springs and extractor problem. Since then, absolutely no problems. I have run the CMC trigger since the second range session. I use the gun mainly for Tactical competitions and practice and it is cleaned after each session. So, the question is, how many rounds have you run through yours and what is your malfunction rate?

8,500+ since April 2012!

only 4300 since may this year. i would be a lot higher if i didnt buy my 1911 .22 to help give me more variety. ive had less than a handful of issues with my 15-22 and they were usually damaged rounds that didnt feed or those that needed a second strike.

Few reported issues says something good about the quality of the rimfire ammo. I guess about a zillion rounds are produced each year.

I just got mine last weekend and am at about 350 rnds. Couple FTF and 2 FTE's. Planning on more than doubling that this weekend.

I have put about 600 through mine in around the 7 weeks I have had it. I have had 2 FTF's but I know why. User error loading up the first mag right. Since then nadda issues and I have only used CCI Minimags in it. Afraid to tempt fait and try something else lol.

On a side note, it is the rifle I ALWAYS have taken to the range every time. I got my Bushmaster AR15 a month before my 15-22 but liked the look of the Smithy 15-22 as someone at work I went to the range with had one and brought it out and showed it to me. Then he told me how much cheaper the ammo was and that sold me right there over the .223.

Now I also have a Saiga AK47 as well and what I am doing now is taking either the AR-15 or AK47 as well as the 15-22 to the range. I hope that tells how much I enjoy the 15-22. Not that I mind the AR-15, or AK47 at all, but the 15-22 is just so fun to plink with!!!

Something around 10k and ZERO malfunctions of the firearm. Ammo? Maybe a half dozen fire failures, although every one worked on the second try.

When looking at problems, just remember that the number of 15-22 owners reporting anything on this forum is but a tiny fraction of the total number of 15-22 owners out in the world. Any statistical analysis done on the basis of what's posted here is totally inaccurate and useless.

CCI makes four millions rounds A DAY!

Think that works out to about a billion, and the 4 million a day fits on like 8 or 16 pallets, forgot from that clip now. Didnt look like much.

Eight pallets - half a million rounds each.

If you want to see LOTS of ammo, go to Hoffman's when they are running an ATK sale or a government contract overrun sale. :) At one sale, they had about 5 million rounds of various centerfire in bulk on the floor, not counting their regular shelf stock. I bought 1k of 180 grain .40S&W Federal HST for $399 at that sale.

Just got it recently. Maybe 1700 +. So far have only run CCI Tactical and Federal Champion. One FTF no FTE. Clean it every other time.

12,669 rounds since October 9, 2010. Some significant issues that are still waiting to be resolved.

As of yesterday my M&P15-22 cleared 10,000+ rounds. I been using Remington and Windchester rounds

I wasn't looking to bash the rifle, quite the opposite. I believe it to be extremely reliable and wanted some evidence of that. It seems I got that here. I have literally had zero malfunctions since S&W fixed the extractor. I use Federal bulk 745 exclusively. This is absolutely my favorite gun, for the fun and cost of shooting. The only downside has been the cost of the upgrades, all well worth it. Does anyone have any idea how many 15-22's have been sold? That would be interesting.
At my club, the vast majority of competitors use the 15-22 with great success and very few problems. Seems that S&W has done us all a favor and made a really great plinking rifle.

Excellent, I am now expecting even greater things from my rifle. Have you noticed any loss of accuracy over time? Have you had to replace any parts? With that many rounds, you really must have crazy fingers!
A big thank you to all who responded, it is interesting.

12K in two years isn't much. I have 10k in the last 10 months - and that's just on the 15-22.

Absent something breaking unexpectedly (if it's mechanical, it CAN break) there no reason not to expect 100k or more (probably more) without significant problems. Barrel life is probably well in excess of 250k. The number of moving parts are minimal and there is nothing with super tight tolerances outside the FCG.

I have a High Standard Trophy SupraMatic with something like 75k through it (it was built in '63) and all parts are original. It will still put 10 rounds in the X-ring on the standard 25-yard slow fire target.

Even springs? I have a High Standard Trophy Military Model 107 of about the same age, and read on the HS forums that I should be replacing the recoil spring.

As far as I know, the spring is original. I bought it in '75 from its original owner - a member of the AMU at Ft. Benning (it has a US stamp on the frame). He said he had 50k plus though it and it was all original. I've put another 25k or so through it myself. No problems and I absolutely love the 14 oz trigger pull. :D

I only have two LR mags; I've never been able to locate more. I also have .22 Short barrel and magazine, but have lucked out on finding a Short slide - that slide is aluminum, not steel.
