. mom-and-pop type diner

If you go in, sit and then they take your order, then cook it for you, its not fast food. Its cooked to order. Might be great or terrible, but its cooked to order. If you go in and the food is already cooked, I guess its fast food. Might be terrible or great, but its prepared in advance. So that pretty much defines chicken joints as fast food. And it still might taste really good or just awful. Not sure the label means much.

I am on the road 35+ weeks a year. I eat fast food generally once a quarter if I must.

I admit to being unable to define fast food.
To me, fast food is any food service place that has a drive through where they serve you cooked food. Thus, the drive through Dairy Mart where you get milk is not fast food. McDonalds, Carl's Jr, Wendy's, Arby's, [insert name of the places you see] etc. are fast food.

Sit down restaurants where they cook your meal to order are not. So, Denny's, IHOP and most truck stops, are not fast food in my book.

Even so, both types serve food that is not healthy at all. I don't care. I eat what tastes good and will die happy.

Maybe twice a month I get some fast food. When the wife wants to goto the range it's tradition that we stop at Wendy's for lunch first. Occasionally when I work late, past midnight, I'll stop at TacoBell when I know there's not much at home to eat.

I don't eat fast food 'cause eat fast food is I'm too slow to catch it.

Sorry guys I couldn't resist.

We had a farmer who raised four legged chickens, they were four people in his family and they all liked leg's and he was tired of killing two chickens to get four leg's, he never did get to see what they taste like, they were so fast, nobody could catch one. :)

The kid likes Mcdonalds. I think it's often just the crappy toy.

Once a week we'll get Chick-fil-A. I'll usually get a salad.

Sometimes we do pizza. I like a Hawaiian.

Sonic is another choice for a quick and easy meal. The menu is just terrible, and we like it. Yum, chili cheese tots!

These questions are usually asked with an agenda. I admit to being unable to define fast food. Most of us will disagree on a lot of things, or even if everything coming across the counter or table is fast food if one thing is. ...

Is a burger fast food if you order it and its then cooked for you? Does the same hold for steak? If the person asking is trying to show his/her superiority there is probably no point in answering their question. So we really need some authority to tell us what is and what isn't fast food. Then if we all agree we can answer the question.
WOW! Some people really overthink things! :o

No agenda here. I just noticed that I have pretty much quit going to fast food places and I wondered if that's just me or if it's a trend.

So I became curious about what the average is for this Forum. It really don't feel judgmental about it, since I am the last person on earth who should give out dietary advice! That would be like Jesse Jackson counseling Bill Clinton on marital fidelity! :D

I would not try to define "fast food", but I think each of us has his own working definition. For me it's a lot like the guy said about pornography:
"I can't define it, but I know it when I see it."

There's a Mexican Grill here that has the best burritos and pork tacos in town. Great menudo but only on the weekends. You order at a cash register, they assemble your stuff and hand it to you. Eat in or take out. I suppose it qualifies as fast food, but is head and shoulders above Taco John's or McDonalds. I hit the grill about once a week. One burrito is two meals. And their salsa is to die for. Also free pickled vegetables and jalapenos.

McDonalds is the only coffee I can drink anymore with what I've got and my medications and many mornings I may get a $1 Sausage McMuffin too. Actually that little morning breakfast helped me lose weight.

I do that only on Sunday maybe twice a month? Does going in and only drinking unsweetened tea count? I usually take in my own lunch so as to not get sick eating their ''food.''

I used to like chicken McNuggets....until I watched a documentary titled "Super Size Me"
It showed how they make them...they kill the chicken, it looked like it was electricity. Then a machine rubbed all the feathers off and a funny looking hook thing pulled out most of the entrails. Then they cooked the entire body, beak, feet, head and all by steam. The cooked chickens went into this big cauldron to boil. It turned in to a gray slurry. Then it was drained, partially dried, dyed to look like chicken meat and formed with a press into the basic McNugget shapes.
Dude...you gotta be kidding me!!!!! I used to put that in my mouth.

The above is why I'll never eat baloney again. And the baloney one is fact, I saw it first hand on a school trip when I was in the 6th grade. To make it, they basically do the above the same way. They kill the cattle using some kind of air pressure gun.:eek:DON'T tell me how they make SPAM!!!!!!

My first time out was Saturday. I rarely eat fast food. Probably not for six months. I had a BK whopper. I have sinned. I been eating between 1,000 to 1,500 calories a day probably under 1,000 at home.

In other words, it's not a lot of baloney? :D

Alright, I'm sorry. :o

I had a supervisor who grew up in Minnesota. As a kid, he worked for some kind of meat processing plant. One of his jobs was to dump the leftover body parts from the slaughtered hogs into a big vat where it was cooked up to make into baloney. He said that after that job, he could never stand to even look at baloney.

Zero. I switched to the Paleo diet this year and dropped 40 lbs without exercise. Basically it's eliminating all processed foods. That includes sauces, condiments, any dressing except oil and vinegar. The purist Paleo diet is anything you can hunt or gather. I take exceptions for beer, coffee, and a high quality hamburger once a week.

I gave up on fast food about 2 years ago. Now I can't even stand the smell of a fast food burger.

I was ordering about 3 times a week but since my hospitalization I no longer get my fill.
