How many would pass this up.

A couple years ago I had just that opportunity with one of these:

As tempting as it was I payed a couple hundred more for the one I really wanted...

Say what you will, those nostalgic old guns may give a warm fuzzy, but they ain't shootin' any better.

Nice iron, Rick, I'd take both in blue.

Assuming I had the money...which I don't...I'd have to see the individual gun. I don't buy guns because I need them. I buy them because I want them. So I'd have to see each gun before I could tell you if I'd buy them or not. I think a lot of the new guns are as ugly as a mud fence...and it has nothing to do with the lock. On the other hand my local dealer has a really pretty "new" Model 27 with a 4" barrel that temps me.

So, a definate maybe.

If you walked into your LGS and he had brand new s&w N Frames of all barrel lengths marked $599/$699 tell me you would pass them up?

I purchased every N frame he had in the nickel finish.

I don't want to hear any lock bashing or crying just a plain answer.

Would if I could!

No but I still applaud you for your purchase. My N Frames are languishing since my acquisition of an X Frame(500 S&W).

And Big Bill has gone where since his original post ??

Just asking. 2 Days and no response regarding his original question.

I'm here been resting my lower back has a bad L5 disc now. I beat the freaking prostate cancer to have back problems. I was saving up my mad money I just didn't know why.

I got the new m58/4" new m24/6 1/2", new m57/6" all in nickel. I did go back but the case was empty of the nickel guns.
I knew nothing about the loc at the time but for $699 I would of purchased them anyway.
When the nickel finish is all said and done it will be sought after? Only the m29/4" is offered in nickel now.
I just can't pass up a bargain.

He did have a m625 in 45LC/4" I passed on. But nothing was left, the cupboard was bare.

I was just wondering how many would pass these up?

I made my wish list(want, gotta have list) but the grand total price is not something to figure out and look at. I just need to go slow.

At this time in my life I don't PLAN on any purchases.
Trades are the only option.
I would surely make some calls to friends and pass the info on.
I do like older guns with CHARACTER if priced right.
I am lucky enough to have a wife and three kids who appreciate firearms so they will have good homes when I am done with this ole world. No and no rush either.
Thanks to my Cabelas points if I see a deal there it is like free cash , got my wife a Kimber for $200 otd in ash plus the POINT bucks. So every 2 years I take a look see there. :)

The $100 difference in the two figures would make it or break it, for me. At $600, I might be interested in a new Model 24, or even a new Model 27 with the 6-1/2" barrel. At $700, I would be thinking twice. And as Cajunbass said, it depends on the individual gun. Everything would have to be at least "acceptable." Some new guns have various features I just find visually detestable - particularly how they are marked, the glow-worm sights, etc. The target stocks on the new N-frames are useless to me, but I don't suppose those would stop me.

The first thing I would do is have a look at the barrel. If it looks good, we would proceed from there. I am still smarting from the last new S&W I bought with an atrocious looking barrel.

Then soon after another LGS offers a brand new s&w m29-10, 6 1/2" barrel in 44magnum in blue with the orginal blue plastic case with papers, the new wooden presentation case, new still unshot but it's traded in so the used price was $699. To me another great buy. I'm on the wagon ever since. What a purdy revolver it is.
I saved money and it was with the lizard at geico.I don't understand how you can pass up these awesome brand new s&w revolvers.

I don't care about the key loc but if it saves one child's life from a careless gun owner it's done its intent. I guess it's intent is for the owner who doesn't use a safe and has kids.

Not to further the lock/no lock debate, but, a careless owner is not even going to think about using the lock.

I have S&W without the lock and one with it. To me, it is a non issue.

Every short bbl 44mag would get at least a second look, I'd jump on a 10mm if they had one, but I would have passed on most of the others. I don't have a 4" 45LC so I might have to give it the once over.
A case full of night guards, and I would have brought home as many as the credit card allowed.

Yes, that would be pretty tempting, but I'd probably pass too. $600-$700 could get me a really nice classic of some sort or another that would please me better in the long run. Also, I haven't bought a new gun in about 20 years and I probably never will. There's just way too many great buying opportunities out there in used, excellent or even ANIB.

I'd love to know where all those ANIB pre-lock or P&R N-frames are in that price range. Maybe a Model 28. Anything else is going to be well worn. $700 might get you a good long look at an excellent condition P&R 27, unless you stumble on someone who doesn't know what it is.

The only new S&W N frames that turn my crank are the stainless PC guns, so I'd be passing on these. Not because of quality or the IL, they just aren't something I want.

I fail to see how this thread is any different from all of the others that have beaten to death the debate about the new style S&Ws while wishing for "the good ol days".
