I searched and didn't find anything. :D

I just got my 15-22 and am wondering how many rounds I can reasonably expect to use up this summer.

How many do you use in a year? What type of shooting do you do? Also how much do you keep on hand?

I know the number will vary but thought it would be fun to see.

Thanks in advance for your input.

How long is a string?

All I know is that a typical range session has me going thru 500 rounds of 45, 38, 357, 44. If I shot 22 probably add another 300? Fortunately
I hate cleaning afterwards, so I don't go to the range as often as most folks!

I usually figure I will shoot at least a brick of 500+ each time out. Bringing my M&P15-22 and 1 or 2 .22 pistols. who wants to come back with a box with a few left anyway. lots of fun for around $22.00.

shooting paper and steel targets

last year I had about 6-7 bricks on hand, that's about what I planned on shooting that year.

This year (new indoor range in town) I plan on going to the range maybe 15 times.

I have 10 bricks on hand now, with these times always looking for more. My goal is to have about 15-20 always on hand for .22

I've found that I don't go through more than 300 rounds or so of .22 in a day, but I also bring my .223 and shoot 250-300 rounds of that, too.

During the summer I go every week to the city range for about 3 hours. I know I can dump a ton of ammo if really wanted to but I like to take my time and pad my wallet so I can go every week vs. every other week or longer. I'll take 2 25-round mags and between the live/cease fire sessions (about 15min on and 10min off) I'll go through about 350 rounds per session. So, for a month its an average of 1400 rounds. I usually take a larger caliber rifle/handgun w/ my 22's, just to keep in practice w/ those weapon systems, so that helps me mitigate usage as well.

I used to go through 1,200+. Now, I plan to go through 500 or less in order to conserve ammo. I have about 9,000 rounds of .22 that I hope lasts me through the current ammo shortage.

I go through about 1 500 bulk pack per session when outdoors, maybe 200-300 when boring indoors. Mostly just plinking, and tactical drills and testing gear. I have about 5k rounds now and have a month old backorder with Cabela's for another 4k and always watching for pre hysteria pricing so I can buy more.

Thanks a lot, that helps me!

I've only been to a real range a handful of times many years ago. I think the most I ever shot back then was a 50 pack. Or I would go take a few shots with the hunting rifle to make sure it was still sighted in from the year before. lol

I am moving about a mile away from a gun range this summer. Now with the 15-22 I plan on joining and learning to shoot better. :D

50 packs do not last long with this rifle! You will have too much fun shooting it. Before going to the range do the following- clean the bore before firing, load the magazine/magazines properly and have plenty of "targets" to shoot. Remember eye and ear protection too. If ypou load mags at home- you will have more time for fun at the range. Have fun and be safe! Oh yeah- and bring plenty of ammo.

You will shoot 500-600 rounds on an average trip...unless YOU limit yourself... that is up to you...

You should have on hand...at any given time... 50,000 plus rounds in your personal hoard...

Someday, it may be better than GOLD.!!!!!!!!

I've only got 10,000 rounds. So if bullets are going to be currency what will the conversion rate be like?

.22 = pennies
.223/5.56=$1
.308/7.72=$3
And so on....

I'm just guessing here what about shotgun shells and pistol ammo? Just for fun and maybe future need to know.

I built a spreadsheet for all my ammo, and I can say with some pride that my ammo portfolio has shown very strong return (with the possible exception of shotshells, but those are not in very high quantity). The ROI is perhaps better than any of the other "funds" of mine, maybe even better than gold.

My next investment I'm planning is the small liquor bottles like they provide on airline flights. These also will be useful "currency" after the collapse.

Have a great day ... :)

We may really need to know this soon. Especially after hearing about N Korea on the news.

Usually 200-300 rounds per month for competitions. Practice once a week but limit myself to maybe, 100 rounds. Any more then that, its just counterproductive.Since I compete in fast action shooting, I can keep myself sharper practicing target sight alignment and movement from one target to the next, by playing in my garage with targets on the wall.I dont actually need to be physically shooting to learn something.
Think I have about 4 k left, should last me a while.
If that runs out? Will go back to archery and compete in that again.

Steel challenge matches 200-300 hundred. If I take my two boys easy 500-1000. Probably not now since it's hard to find.

Bad thing range is 10mi from my house & the family usually hits it up twice a week in the summer.

Wish I could reload .22!

I average 250 a day at the range. But I have to limit myself so I don't deplete my supply faster than I can replenish it.

I can see another one of my crawlers going on the block when this insanity dies down and my stockpile will be increased exponentially.
