How much did you pay for your M&P Shield?

As a public service, to this point those reporting a "plus tax" price show average price of $407.77. Those who've reported what they paid "out the door" averaged $418.21.

My LGS is holding one for me I will be paying $430 OTD tomorrow.

I'm ok with that. At the average $408 plus tax and PICS fees I'd be at around $443. I'm sure the price will drop a little on these as the shine wears off but I wouldn't guess by a whole lot. And I'd rather spend a few more bucks and have mine right away. (Will most likely head right from the shop to the range!)

When I was finally able to find (stumble across) one locally I fully expected to pay MSRP. I think a got a pretty nice unexpected discount on mine, but can honestly say that had I been quoted the MSRP I still would've purchased it simply because I wanted it. I'm too old and impatient when it comes to things like this. I want it now!:D

I've thought about this. Say $399 is an excellent price and $449 is the MSRP. Is $50 really that much of a difference is you could have it today and you could buy the example you're holding in your hand? Maybe...

No, not at all if you really wanted one.

Still, I see them at sub $400 all day when the initial demand goes down. But you'll have to wait 6 months+ for that to happen.

I think that is the way our goverment thinks as well! I will have to disagree with you on this one ponchsox! Just because someone will pay it doesn't make it ok. This situation isn't illegal because we don't HAVE to buy it. I am all for everybody making their buck, but if they charge more then their usual mark up just because, they are taking advantage of me. My LGS had it for MSRP as well. I asked the guy if they had any other guns for sale at MSRP & he said no. I fondled it and left!

I guess I totally don't understand this logic or conclusion. It is capitalism at its purest and most unmolested. It's an independent seller asking what the market will carry. Good for the guy, good for the market (inspires competition), less good for the consumer. I don't consider an M&P Shield an essential item that a businessperson should be either honor- or legally- bound to sell at some low price because I want it.

I want a Shield. I will highly likely buy a Shield. The price I pay is going to be heavily influenced by my impetuousness, supply, and availability. If guy X is selling it for MSRP and guy Y is selling it for MSRP-$50, I'll go with guy Y. Guy X will respond or wait until guy Y sells out.

I guess in summation: I don't like it when I have to pay more for stuff... but to equate selling a pistol (again, not an essential, unique, morally necessary thing) for what the market will bear with taking advantage of me strikes me as a bit hyperbolic at best and patently confused about a free market economy at worst.

I hope both you and I find Shields at deals that are good for us For me, I suspect I'll cave and buy at MSRP (or above with FFL and shipping) because, dammit, I want one now!

got mine for $409 plus tax

got the second one in the city:D

and the LGS already has over 20 people on wait list for future orders:eek:

Well mrbort, my "logic and conclusion" is just that I don't agree with someone making more profit on an item just because it is popular right now and people will pay it. I stated that I am all for everybody making their fair share. I also said since a weapon is not an item we MUST purchase that the mark up was infact legal, just not good business "in my opinion". I believe we are still allowed to form and state our opinions. I also just stated that I would have to disagree with the opinion ponchsox shared with us. HOWEVER, I did not refer to him as a "confused hyperbolic capitalist" for stating his opinion. BUT, that is what is nice about this country, we are all FREE to have our own opinion. You are free to have your opinion of me as well. I guess some just show a bit more couth when it comes to another mans opinion. They are your rights though, so use them as you see fit! I will continue to do so as well! Have a great day and God bless!

JJ,

I apologize for my mischaracterization of your post and by extension you and your opinions. It was not a fair point and I regret making it. Thank you for reminding me to have more tolerance, give more benefit of the doubt, and most of all respect others and their opinions more. Again, my apologies. Best of luck to you.

Regards,
mrbort

$341. :D I did trade in some Chinese United Cutlery knives I had lying around for a $60 deposit, though.

Purchasing price was $375+7.0% tax. Equates to $401.25 out the door.

My LGS has "two left" @ $499.00 + 7% tax. I passed and will also wait for the luster to wear a bit.

I went looking for a .45 M&P and seen this little M&P sitting with a tag that said M&P 9mm 3-1/8" barrel. My response can I see that shield.
They got 4 in on tues. and I bought the last one today, $422.something out the door. Really didn't expect to see one at my LGS this soon.

Greenville SC, Dewey's Pawn has one at $499.95! I passed! And he will not come down on it.

Dewey's has always been high. Check out Freedom gun shop on White Horse Rd, they had a few in at $399.

Talk about price gouging  Let me guess. He probably complains about too high prices when HE goes shopping.

$389 plus tax - $413 out the door. Got it on the 13th, had been in the shop for less than an hour :)

$379.95 plus $15.00 shipping from Gunbroker. I paid $10.00 to my FFL. So total was $404.95. I am really happy with the deal and gun.
