how much did your 1st one cost

1970...Benton's Gun Shop Willington, Conn. June I think right after I graduated from High School. Father signed for me.

Bought a matched pair...a 19 and an 18... I can only remember one of them was $89.00.

In 1979 I paid $204 for an 8 3/8 length barreled K-22. I still have it and the original box and most of the paperwork. It has seen all of two or three boxes of shell shot through it. Needless to say it is in pristine condition.

I bought my Model 34-1 to replace it as it is much easier to carry the 4' barreled model.

Model 10

$100 used from my old boss for a Model 10 no dash, made in 1959, purchased in about 1982 or so. Around 1999 I traded it in on a used model 65, and regretted it right away. Bad. About 8 months later I saw the same gun at the local gun shop where I traded it and bought it back. Never will let it go again.

My first S&W was a M18 .22 Combat Masterpiece that I bought new in Albuquerque, NM in 1967 for $67.50. My next 3 were a package deal that I bought a year or so later. A 1917 Army for $50, a .32-20 M&P, nickle, 6" barrel and factory stag grips for $55 and a .44 HE second model, 5" barrel, blue in .44-40 Win, unfired, for $60. All were sold or traded many years ago, but I sure wish I still had the .44-40!

My first S&W purchase was at a gun show in Inianapolis back in 1980. Bought 2 nib w/papers and screwdrivers, cleaning kits. Model 19-4 snubbie and a model 66-1 snubbie. Still own both of them and the are just like I bought them.I think I paid $400 or $425 for the pair. Didn't know a lot about them back then but I knew I liked them.
Had a friend tell me I should have looked for longer barrel models as they were more sought after. I told him I liked the shorter ones better. 33 years later looks like I made a wise decision. Got enough others to shoot so these will probably stay safe queens.

My first Smith & Wesson

I bought my first S&W in 1964......a M27, 8 3/8" with 3 T's for $125, from Stanley Andrews Sporting Goods in downtown San Diego, CA. Still have it and will never sell it........a wonderful shooter!!

I was late to the game and bought my first Smith around '03 or '04.It was a 629 classic.I think I paid $635.it was a great shooter as was the 586 that followed.Couldn't get used to the ugly lock though and they both left so I could replace them with older versions. This forum has been a bad influence 😊

S&W Model 19-3, 4" barrel, SN# 9K30XXX
Pinned Barrel, Recessed Chambers
S&W Service Center subsequently turned the barrel in 1 turn,
fitted smooth "combat trigger" (returned original trigger)
Bought New $193.98 4/6/77

I still have it & it'll cost you a whole lot more to get me to part with it.

You got a better deal than me - I bought mine new in April 1977 for $200 even. Mine's nickel plated. Still have mine too!

Bob, my Dad did the same for me in August, 1969 - for my first 44 Magnum, at the great Schutz Brothers shop in North Manchester, Indiana. The price was $165. The friends in Springfield had just recently raised their price on the Model 29 from $150 to $165, so I was unwittingly beginning my now long-standing tradition of invariably paying the highest price for everything I buy. :D

Years later I had what I considered to be the honor of selling a Browning skeet gun to one of the Schutz clan, but I can't recall the gentleman's relationship to the shop owners. The Schutz brothers ran a wonderful shop - going there was like going to visit Santa at the North Pole to this young shooter. I'll always fondly remember Dick Schutz and his crew.

It was (i still got it) a S&W 19-4 4 inch barrel, with the most beautyfull grained Goncalo-Alves-targetgrips.
It cost me used CHF 560.-- back then.
Sorry, but i did not found a currency-converter that got the data stored so far to the (good old) days.
Swissman

From what I remember about exchange rates in Switzerland when I was there in 1977 and what I can find on the web (both happen to agree!) I would guess you paid the equivalent of about US $334.00. I also happened to buy a 4-inch Model 19 about that time, in my case a 19-3 that had been sitting in a local shop for a while. Unfortunately, I have no record of what I paid for it here in Indiana. I still have that Model 19, too. :)

A K22 for $90. I traded in a Mauser .25 1910 auto and a little cash for it. This was about 1967, I don't remember having to fill out a 4473. Unfortunately I no longer have that K22.

My 1962 10-5 2in was free to me after my wheelin n dealin. Haven't even had it a month yet.

My first was a square butt 36-1 3 inch blued back in about 1964 or 1965. I think it cost me about $70 at that time, which was a lot of money back then. Next one which followed close on the heels of that one was a Model 10-5 HB which I still have in the box.

My first S&W was a 1917 in 70% condition for $500 earlier this year, my second S&W was a 28-2 last month for...$500. (I am seeing a pattern here)

My first was a S&W 686 4" 6 shot. I bought it 10 years or so before meeting my wife, but she loved it so much she has made it her primary truck gun for her SUV console (she has a model 60 for CCW purposes). I have not seen either in 10 years except for when she brings them to me during the monthly cleaning regiment or during range time. Guess it's not my toy anymore.

I paid about $550 for it new in Yuma, AZ.
