How much do you keep?

I have enough ammo that I don't know how much ammo I have. But I'm most
proud that I have over 3000 rounds of hard to find .41 Long Colt.

Well, I only have 1/10th of the amount of .41 Long Colt ammo that Muddyboot has but for the rest; if access to resupply was cut off tomorrow, I'd be unhappy but still able to shoot thousands of rounds per year for life.

wow - some of these ol' boys have a-plenty for sure!
I should have added a good deal of my shooting is BP guns, Rem '58, ROA, .50 cal front-stuffer and T/C 12ga smoothy. I have some of that 'layed back' also.
but more .22LR's for 3 rifles and 2 pistols than anything.
and good deal shotgun ammo for 3 shottys. I figure maybe family member or close friend show up w/out a gun those will do good service loaned out.
this discounts ammo for several centerfire pistols and 3 carbines chambered for 9mm, .45acp and lever .357 (accurate Marlins all)

HOLY COW!!! btw you better check the expiration date on the boxes...dont want them going bad...if you need some help ridding the expired rounds..I will be glad to help.

Just over the 20,000 round count as of today :D...

Still going.

Buy it cheap stack it deep!

I admire the storage some of you have. I keep a modest 6-8 boxes at all time. Mostly ball ammo. That covers me for 3 or 4 boxes at the range, plus a few in case I get a chance to go out again before the next mail-order shipment arrives. I always keep 2-3 boxes of SD ammo to practice with as well.

I have only an MP9 FS.

It varies by the cartridge......I have enough 8mm Mauser to outfit a battalion with a full combat load per man, I bought it cheap and stacked it deep 10 years ago when stuff like Turk and Yugo surplus was $50 per 1,000. Now THAT stuff is probably past it's expiration date...I would probably wear the bores out of 10 rifles trying to get rid of that stuff..might need to pick up another beater $80 Turk M38 and start blasting some of that stuff this summer, and see if I can actually shoot a rifle out...I use it just for plinking but if Chinese paratroopers start dropping out of the sky, I'm grabbing one of my Czech Mausers and heading to the "ammo bunker"! I have so much that it's everywhere, I was out in my barn looking for a ladder, I moved a pile of old junk out of the way and found 2 sealed 900 round cases of Ecuadoran 8mm sitting there.......I don't even remember when I got that......

As far as stuff I actually use, if I'm down to my last 1,000 round case I feel like I'm running low. I usually have a few thousand of my "bread and butter" handgun rounds, 9mm,.357 and .38 Special. I also like to have a good amount of 12 gauge 00 Buck. I don't keep a lot of other stuff "in stock", I don't shoot much .45 ACP, .44 Magnum, .380, etc. I keep a few boxes of these but don't usually buy cases of it.

More than I can carry. More than I ever want to even consider moving again. In a somewhat concerned note.....Less than when we moved it to my younger son's house for storage while building... :( But more than I can ever shoot. If the S ever hits the F, we probably won't ever get to use much (the government will come for it, for our own good.) And way too many components. Again, more than I can move or carry. And so much for some calibers its probably unhealthy.

In many things my views differ from others. Anyone who has read these posts over the years knows I'm kind of odd. I really prefer not to have all my components loaded. Its because much of it (everything but cases, really) can be used in other loadings. Like .30 bullets and large rifle primers can have a wide application, as can well selected powders.

And I understand many folks have odd views of "enough". Once, long age I perceived a shortage of ammo in my modest stocks. After a series of phone calls, a group of us determined the need (not just desire) to attend a weekend gun show. It was a problem because it conflicted with a club Christmas party for kids. We figured out we could send our wives with kids, and we'd meet them on the way home from the gun show. Seemed like a plan.

One of our friends went to the party and asked why we weren't there ( we always attended.) Our wives told him we were ammo buying. It means different things I guess. When we got there, he volunteered that he had enough, probably 200 or more rounds if you count 22s. Of course none of us disclosed the number of rounds purchased. You can rest comfortably if you assume it exceeded 200 rounds...by a very comfortable margin.

I have about 1000 total. Mostly a big bag of 40's that were given to me. Next would be 38's and 45 Colts. Then 30-30s, 357s, and a stash of 380s for my wife's gun.

I think if you don't have more then you can count without a calculator or paper and pencil you don't have enough. I have never had enough.

dont ask.....dont tell.............here in illinois big brother will tax what you got,

Put it this way. Next time I move () there will be several pickup truck loads of nothing but loaded ammo and at least one truck load of loading components. As evidence of ammo hoarding, this evening I was cleaning out some shelf space and consolidating some ammo and found a box of Federal Hydra-Shok 357 Mag 130 grain. Printed on the box by Federal is "NEW". My guess is that box is at least 20 years old. A Fair guess as to the number of loaded long gun cartridges I have on hand would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 - 20K, not including 22 S, L, LR, WRF and WMR. Most of the rifle ammo I have on hand is milsurp. I have 8 cans (400/can) of 1966/67 M2 (30-06), 2 cans (400/can) 1961/62 M72 (30-06 Match), 2+ cans (1920/can) of FN 1952 M2, 2+ cases (1040/case) of 7.62 x 39, 10 battle packs (200/BP) of German 7.62 x 51, 300+ boxes of Fed Gold Medal Match .308 168 gr. (Wal Mart was closing a store and had it priced at #1.97 ber box of 20.:D). As far as shotgun hunting ammo goes there are full cases of 10 (x2), 12 (x8), 20 (x4), 28 (x1) and .410 (x1,-1 box). For shotgun HD ammo I have a bulk pack ammo can with 250 rounds of Winchester Low Recoil 12 ga 2-3/4" 00 Buck on hand. For handgun ammo I would guess that I have on hand a total of 4-5K spread out over 7.62 x 25 Tok, 9 x 18 Mak, 9 x 19, 32 ACP, 380 ACP, 38 Spcl, 357 Mag, 357 Sig, 40 S&W, 44 Spcl, 44 Mag, 45 ACP and 10 mm. Also have enough powder, bullets and primers to reload all handgun ammo at least twice with the exception of the 9 x 18 Mak and 7.62 x 25 Tok. The Mak and Tok milsurp is so cheap I can't reload any cheaper than buying milsurp in bulk.

You can never have too much, only too much to move in one truck load.:)
