Just saw this nice old shotgun at the shop. M 37 Deerslayer 12 gauge. Just Deerslayer no 1 or 2. I do not have much info on it yet but it appears to an older one and is in "good" condition. Needs some clean up. Has the engraved scenes on the receiver. Wood is pretty good, small crack by the receiver(in the wood)

It's a shorter barrel so I do not even know how many rounds it holds?:o

Any ballpark value??

Around $300 +/- ,will usually get you a decent condition DeerSlayer around here at G/Shows.
Not a mint condition shotgun, but mechanically sound and with good original finish yet.
The earlier the mfg,,the more $$ usually, but some nice early Ithaca 37's are around for not much money.

Seems to be lots of Ithaca 37's around and the prices are generally very affordable.
One of the better buys in a pump shotgun IMHO.

The standard D/Slayer held 5 rds in the tube.

:) Hey Rule3! I agree with 2152hq on price. I also agree they are a good value and I just like the way they look. Don

I have had several Ithaca 37's, the older ones all have that roll engraved scenes in the receiver. The very early ones will have evidence of being hand chased and look a bit nicer than the later ones. I own a 16 gauge deluxe Deerslayer. They are a very nice gun and in the condition you describe I would say about $300 and maybe a bit less. What is the barrel length? You could get them in 26 or 20 inch. A nice thing about the Deerslayer is that Ithaca made them so that they would shoot as accurately as a .35 Remington at 100 yards. Mine will group an inch at 50 yards with no problem. (Mine has a 26 inch barrel which is nice for bird hunting).

I would have to say this is a short barrel 20" Rifle sights with the early form of red "fiber optic" (piece of plastic) front sight. I have not given it my OCD/A-Retentive look over yet.:)

Here's mine . . . and I wouldn't trade it for the world. It was made in 1969, has the rare LH safety on it (I'm a lefty) and it will put three Foster type Federal Classic rifled slugs into a 1 1/2" cloverleaf everytime time, point of aim, at 100 yards. SERIOUSLY!!! It likes the Federal Classic load the best by far.

The light, shortbarreled Deerslayer slug gun also "kills at both ends" but I surely didn't feel it when I dropped two bucks in quick succession about 14 years ago. The first @ 75 yards . . . and then the other one took off and ran straight at my climber in a hardwood bottom.

As I quickly racked the slide I thought, "I can't BELIEVE this," then brought it on target to nail him just before he got to my tree. He bounced of the tree and died right there with a hole in his chest the size of a LARGE grapefruit!

Man, it was a chore dragging those two big bucks out of the bottom!

BTW, I got mine about 20 years ago at a Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission auction. They were phasing their parkerized Ithacas out for new shotguns after about 40 years, still in great shape. Great shotguns . . . and bottom eject shotguns are loved by us lefties too!!! Best $42.50 I ever spent! LOL
