How much $ on a scope?

My Aimpoint Pro costs 4 times what my TRS-25 costs. It does not shoot 4 times better but I really like the durability & long battery life of the Aimpoint. The TRS suited my style of shooting just fine but I feel better having the nicer optic... even on a "lowly" 15-22.

My Aimpoint H1 cost six times what my PA MicroDot cost. I win! :D

You're right, it don't make ya shoot six times better. But it is nice to have. And if it makes the fun even more fun... then that's good enough reason.

I have gotten good results from the UTG Bugbuster 3-9.

I usually opt for a Primary Arms 3moa red dot + lower 1/3 co-witness of my Tactical .22.

Some good info in this thread mixed in with a lot of opinions.

Some folks say the rule is "buy a rifle you can afford, and scope you cannot."

I spent 18 months researching scopes. Was looking for one to go on my long range rig at the time. I looked at everything from Redfields to Swarovski.

Great glass isn't cheap. I am a public school teacher, so that right there tells you all I'm not wealthy. However, I belong to camp that says buy quality once, and cry once.

I hate cheap glass that's not clear.

Right now on my M&P 15-22 I have a Leupold VX-R 1.25-4 with the firedot German #4 reticle. It sits in the Leupold mark 2 ar mount. That combo cost a good bit more than the gun, but I like it everytime I look through it!

Buy what you want, which I think you did from your last post. Enjoy!

While there's nothing wrong with an Aimpoint, Eotech, or any other amazing quality optic on the 15-22, I personally find it a little laughable. Those optics cost what they do because they are built to military specs, hence the reason the military uses them, along with Trijicon. On an AR or anything with recoil, I can see the purchase as justified. For the 15-22, people get away with mounting airsoft accessories, and for good reason.

OP, don't obsess about the money spent on optics. Simply find one that suites your needs, be it an Aimpoint or a TruGlow. While I can be a brand snob with regard to optics, it doesn't apply in my mind to the 15-22. Even at twice the price of the rifle, you still can't purchase a Trijicon, so why bother? For plinking?

As I stated above, my Aimpoint does not shoot 4 times better than a cheaper optic (my TRS-25). However, what it does give me is a proper backup for the Eotech on my AR. That is important to me. Laugh all you want.

I'm sorry. I have apparently offended you.

There is a place and a use for them, but for the kid who shows up at the range all decked out because it's cool, well that's laughable and quite simply, a waste of money on this weapon. That's my only point. For the purpose of training, specifically LE or military who want comparable training at a lower expense, it makes perfect sense.

I originally bought my Leupold VX-R to go on a Marlin 1894 in .44 mag. Thought it would be a perfect scope for whitetails and hogs in Georgia timber. This remains to be very true. Love the motion activated red dot.

However, I didn't like the size and how it looked/complimented my 1894 when on top of it. Too big. The one advantage Leupold has over most all other manufacturers is their scopes are smaller in size compared to the competition's scopes. They are the perfect fit for lever actions, or your small rifles like the Remington model 600 and model 7.

I have a VX3 1.5-5 with german #4 (1" scope) on a Ruger #1. It's a perfect match.

So... since I didn't like the vx-r on the marlin I bought the ar mount and put it on the 15-22.

Also, my 15-22 is my 2nd line of in home defense. First is a pistol. I keep the 15-22 close by at night. The scope lights up when I pick it up, and I have it loaded with 25 rounds of cci stingers.

Call me crazy, yes I am, but I'm not stupid. I have 3 children. If an attacker is in my home he/she is less than 30 feet from me. 25 rounds of stingers in the body is good medicine. The noise level won't leave me deaf, and I don't have to fear that a round will absolutely go thru a wall and kill one of my own.

If my 9mm and 25 rds of stinger don't work, I've got what God gave me.

For the 15-22 the UTG Bug Buster in my opinion is the best bang for your dollar. I have even put it on my AR 15 with good results.
For a rifle that is only really good out to about 200 yards you don't need much more scope. These things are cheap price wise, and very durable. Site picture is good as well. The cross hairs could be a little more narrow, but for a 200 yard shot they work very well. My next choice would be a Nikon. Both scopes have decent glass for the money. I also have a UTG 6X scope that is now on my 22 that I like as well, nice fine cross hairs and does not need lit up to see them. I would own a better scope if I was shooting 400 plus yards, but the range I shoot at does not go out that far. Not that I would even try that with a .22. But I can shoot 1.5 MOA at 125 yards with the Bug Buster all day long on the AR using XM 193 or SS109.
Not a bad scope for the money.
