How often do you clean?

Carry guns, after each range trip with a wipe down every 3 or 4 days(I have a skin ph that will eat finishes). They get a range trip at least once a month. Usually bore snake and nook and cranny cleaning.
Range guns, I have a 6" 19 that probably gets 10000 rounds a year and is almost always dirty. Always goes bang, amazing how unique and bullseye powder residue resists rust. Loaned it to my nephew and he returned it sparkling and coated in rem oil. Little rust speckled formed within a week. I could go a year and not wipe off the residue and no rust.
Fyi the only rust or missing finish on it was from that occurrence.

I have a friend with OCD and he cleans his impulsively after every time we shoot at my range, even if he only puts 10 rounds through something.

If it weren't for him, I wouldn't even know what cleaning is except a good wipedown once in a while, a boresnake with some Hoppes if I'm extremely bored, and some highly compressed air from the air compressor if I happen to go in the shop when I finish shooting.

FWIW, I can still out shoot him.

If I press the bang switch and that little pin flies forward, it's gonna hit the primer and go bang. That's enough to defend me.

I like to clean prior to my range trip. I will boresnake and lube with the firearm still assembled after shooting is over.

One shot or a hundred it gets cleaned, I was taught and know how to clean em properly so no problem there. What I would like to know is why I have the optimism that when wearing a nice clean shirt I can clean a weapon and not get the shirt stained. I always mean to get a shop apron but somehow that has not happened yet! I suppose that this would satisfy the definition of insanity!

I clean my firearms after every use, but mostly because I like the cleaning process. I realize I could get away with cleaning them less frequently, but there's something about sitting at the bench with a glass of ice tea, music, and working/cleaning on a gun that's almost therapeutic.

If you ever find yourself traveling through Chattanooga send me a PM.

All the ice tea and therapy you want. :D

If I shoot it I clean it. I don't normally take the same gun or guns to the range when I go to a range. My CCW I wipe down every night. My around the house varmint rifle I'll clean after a few hundred rounds but it will get a wipe down if it's been out in the weather.

This ought to start a firestorm and get the thread going again.

I have many guns, like a lot of you here. I shoot. A LOT. Sometimes, because I have my range in my back yard, I may shoot a gun 20-30 rounds and just go to something else. I ain't cleaning 15 guns after an afternoon in my back yard.

Some here would call me lazy and that's fine, but the illusion created by the military for busy work for boot camp is total BS. Ever seen a clean weapon in a foxhole in Vietnam? There ya go, then. If you pull the trigger and it goes bang, that's good enough. I'm not a precision shooter, and it's not my intention to ever become a competition marksman. I want to hit my target and kill it if I need to. As long as my gun does that, I'm good.

in theory after every use, but it doesn't happen that way. it works that way for rifles because I'm new to them. but for handguns it depends. if it's a gun I rarely shoot then yes immediately and goes back in safe. but for regular use guns such as the CZ75 and Makarov, well probably every 500 rounds.
