I unload my carry gun when I'm cleaning/lubing it or when I go to the range. Other than that it stays loaded. My magazines stay loaded for literally years at a time.

How often do you load or unload your carry guns?

Every day I unload my pistol, wipe down with a lightly oiled rag, then reload.

Hummm. I don't have a routine schedule but I may need to think about that. Otherwise when ever I use it at the range ( ~once a month ). I use the ammo in the mag and replace it with new, and I clean the gun after I shoot.

Guns/magazines tend to stay loaded.......carry guns tend to live in a dedicated "lock box".... if a gun is in it; that gun is loaded and GTG

the only thing I ''worry about".... is if/when I clear the round in the chamber I try to rotate it to the bottom of the magazine before reloading...... I don't want to encourage bullet set back.

My carry gun is a 642. I unload for cleaning and dry fire practice. I usually try to get in at least a couple minutes of dry fire practice each day, so I'd say I unload my gun daily, or nearly so. While I don't unload the chambers for my daily inspection/end-of-day wipe down, I swing out the cylinder when doing so.

To each their own but I'm not unloading and reloading my carry gun 365 times a year. /QUOTE]

Drop the magazine, drop the chambered round, wipe gun with oily rag, insert mag, chamber new round, drop mag and top off, reinsert mag: all takes less than 45 seconds with a 1911.

Hard to imagine why that drill would seem oppressive or excessively time consuming.

All my semi-autos have at least one magazine loaded with self-defense rounds. Each time I take one of these guns to the range, which is two to three times a month, I unload all of the SD rounds and use all of the magazines during target practice. If I am going to have any magazine problems, I want to find out while I'm at the range, not when I'm in a self-defense situation.

I can see the Marine Patrol oiling their gun daily, but for me, nope.

This has been a public service announcement...

Carry gun gets loaded before I leave the house and unloaded when I get home. House guns tend to stay loaded.
