How to acquire a 625 Mountain Gun

I was browsing the internet and came across the following:

The Smith &Wesson Model 625 Mountain Gun is a lighter version of the 625. The standard Model 625 Mountain Gun fires .45 Colt through a 4 inch barrel. In 2001, a limited edition was also built by the Smith & Wesson Performance Center that uses .45 ACP ammunition. Both of these revolvers have Hogue rubber grips and adjustable rear sights.

My question is: How would I go about trying to obtain one of the 2001 models that shoot .45 ACP? I know you can't just walk into a store and buy these, but is there a way to just buy one? Maybe a certain web site that specializes in something like this or even paying a finder's fee arrangement?

Popular gun, and hard to find. You can try registering on the auction sites and setting up some searches that will notify you when a gun matching your search terms comes up for auction. You can also post a WTB ad here in the forum classifieds. But I guess the only real wisdom I can impart is that the more you have to spend, the easier it will be to find one.

If you could live with a blue gun with fixed sights and an IL you could find a model 22-4 easier and is a good handling and shooting 45 ACP and auto rim. I love mine.

Thank you. This is helpful. I didn't know you could do that with the auction sites.

As for the spend, I understand that to buy something like this takes some cash but there needs to be a gun in front of you before you can make an offer. I'm sure I can close the deal, but I've never bought other than new and I don't even know how to go about doing it. I'm going to get my CCW just so that I don't have to hesitate when I do find one because as mentioned, I'm sure if I do find one, it won't last long.

FWIW, I'm also looking for a 4" model of 1989. I like my new 625PC, but to me, a real gun has a hammer that actually strikes the bullet.

Deanodog - That is a nice looking gun. I could live with a blue gun and an IL is no issue for me. At the moment though I'm stuck on acquiring some stainless.

My 625-6 45 ACP Mountain Gun has a frame mounted firing pin. I may have misunderstood what you wrote though.

I was considering having my 625 Mountain Gun in 45 Colt cut to accept moon clips before I found the 45 ACP one. That will allow you to shoot 45 Colt and 45 ACP from moon clips. You cannot shoot ACP without clips or auto rim though. You may consider that if you get tired of waiting.

I was talking about two different guns. I don't know if the mountain gun has a frame mounted firing pin. That one I just want. The older model with the hammer mounted firing pin is another gun I want. Not sure if it's a model of 1989 or 1988 that I want, but I want a stainless gun with a 4" barrel that is older and has a hammer mounted firing pin. That would be sweet.

I would like to find a 625 Mountain Gun in .45 ACP, but I have a very nice 625-8PC. It weighs 39.6 oz. with Hogue grips on my scale. My 629-6 Mountain Gun weighs 39.4 oz. with the same grips. I feel my 625PC is a suitable substitute for the Mountain Gun.
