Did you see that Diane Sawyer has a special report coming up this week? They removed ALL items from a typical, middle class family's home that were not made in the USA .

There was hardly anything left besides the kitchen sink. Literally. During the special they are going to show truckloads of items - USA made - being brought in to replace everything and will be talking about how to find these items and the difference in price etc..

It was interesting that Diane said that if every American spent just $64 more than normal on USA made items this year, it would create something like 200,000 new jobs!

WAS BUYING FOOD THE OTHER DAY AT WALMART and ON THE LABEL OF SOME PRODUCTS IT SAID 'FROM CHINA'

FOR EXAMPLE THE "OUR FAMILY" BRAND OF THE MANDARIN ORANGES SAYS RIGHT ON THE CAN 'FROM CHINA '

I WAS SHOCKED SO FOR A FEW MORE CENTS I BOUGHT THE LIBERTY GOLD BRAND OR THE DOLE SINCE IT'S FROM CALIF.

Are we Americans as dumb as we appear --- or --- is it that we just do not think while the Chinese, knowingly and intentionally, export inferior and even toxic products and dangerous toys and goods to be sold in American markets?

70% of Americans believe that the trading privileges afforded to the Chinese should be suspended.

Why do you need the government to suspend trading privileges? DO IT YOURSELF, AMERICA!!

Simply look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says 'Made in China ' or 'PRC' (and that now includes Hong Kong ), simply choose another product, or none at all. You will be amazed at how dependent you are on Chinese products, and you will be equally amazed at what you can do without.

Who needs plastic eggs to celebrate Easter? If you must have eggs, use real ones and benefit some American farmer. Easter is just an example. The point is do not wait for the government to act. Just go ahead and assume control on your own.

THINK ABOUT THIS: If 200 million Americans refuse to buy just $20 each of Chinese goods, that's a billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favor...fast!!

Most of the people who have been reading about this matter are planning on implementing this on May 1st and continue it until June 1st. That is only one month of trading losses, but it will hit the Chinese for 1/12th of the total, or 8%, of their American exports. Then they might have to ask themselves if the benefits of their arrogance and
lawlessness were worth it.

Remember, MAY 1 TO JUNE 1st !!!!!!
START NOW.

Send this to everybody you know. Let's show them that we are Americans and NOBODY can take us for granted.

If we can't live without cheap Chinese goods for one month out of our lives, WE DESERVE WHAT WE GET!

Pass it on, America...... BUY AMERICAN !!!!!

I agree with everything you are saying but what if the store (s) do not have a choice? I buy very little at WalMart but even the better stores say for clothing, not much is made in the USA. What kind of TV or electronics are you going to buy. I just bought a Japanese camera but it was made in China.

We really like shrimp. Do you know how hard it is to find US harvested shrimp here in FLORIDA on the GULF! Most of the garbage shrimp is imported farm raised in Thailand. It's ridiculous. I gladly pay the $1-2 more a pound for wild harvest Gulf shrimp but it's hard to find.

I buy American from May 1st to May 1st. I get tired of hearing "Everything is made in China". Just make an effort, it can be done and retailers notice it and stock more US products. In stead of guying those $6Chinese made jeans, go online if you have to and type in "usa made jeans" and order the damn things.

Think of this, you buy a cheap Chinese made kitchen table, in 5 years you are throwing it out. You save up, put your money aside and go for that"Expensive" USA made table. That USA made table will be handed down to your grand children.

Most people buy chinese **** because their credit cards are racked up, they dont contemplate purchases and impulse buy on the card. That is why they have 10 k worth of credit card debt and nothing to show for it, because it is already in the landfill.

My other pet peeve is foreign travel, like to Mexico. You lazy slobs have to lay on a beach all day, sucking down food and drink? Do it in Florida. Better yet, skip laying around and go visit historic sites. Maybe teach your kids something.

I looked at almost every pair of shoes in the shoe store the other day. ALL of them were Chinese made. I found one type of New Balance tennis shoes made in USA of "imported products." At any rate, I now see no need of paying a premium for Jarmon, Florsheim, Clark's, Sperry, or other high dollar shoes when they're all made by the same two year old, three inch waisted kid on slave labor at some sweatshop in the middle of China.

I was hospitalized las week for a few days and put on a liquid diet. My apple juice - I repeat - MY******* APPLE JUICE was imported from China. I refused it. My wife, God Love Her, went to the grocery and came back with some.

The vast majority of our (shopping) public vote with their wallets, hence Made in China. And we're not talking about just clothing or other "necessities". Go to any yard sale and you'll find hundreds of items "Made in China" selling for pennies on the dollar. We live in a consumer society and people take this seriously. We equate buying with saving so "buy now", "save big", don't wait", etc. Television shopping channels are doing very well with "easy pay", no payments for 3 months, etc.
Shopping is as ingrained in our culture as driving and people will always be looking for the cheapest price whether it's for gas (from the Middle East) or a lamp (Made in China). Good luck trying to change that behavior.

This problem would not exist if not for the Unions and government regulations. The companies moved so they could make a profit. Remember that the product was probably invented/designed in the US and moved overseas for the money. Heck, my German car was made in Mexico:)

I tend to agree with deralte. Most companies would prefer a country with stable political and economic conditions and an educated work force (read that right here in the US of A). But, if the cost of doing business is driven up by too many external factors such as taxes, regulations, and labor, then they often have to move elsewhere just to stay in business.

Walmart has reduced its orders of goods made in China....but not because it wants to increase its stock of US goods.

Walmart is reducing its orders of goods made in china because Chinese workers are getting higher pay due to their expanding economy.

Is the new Walmart new enough?

I stated the same thing RE; NB a few weeks ago. No one cared.

So if I understand you, "The Unions" are the problem and the masters or owners of the company would not take the profit. They would give it to the workers in the form of a raise in pay.!!!!!!! Ya- go to the bank, barrow a quarter, and buy a clue.

Unions are a necessary evil and they are the only thing keeping American working men and women afloat.

I'm a rancher and don't have a horse in the race but I can read between the lines. Keep on reading the evening news and belive what they say. Keep your eyes closed, dont do your own research, bury your head in the sand, watch the TV news like a good little "SHEEPLE"!!!!! I'll bet you put your paper money in the bank!!!!! GEE-ZUS-H-BUCKLEY.

I am of a similar view, except that I live in Canada.Canadian first,American second,Mexico is O.K., since we are all in a related economy.
Sometimes it is hard to determine where stuff is actually from.Stuff imported in bulk and then repacked/labeled can be very decieving.

I read your post 7 times, to make sure I understand what you are saying. My God do you even own a book? Do you have a clue how to read, something besides the drivel put out by the mass media.

I hope I don't get dinged, I know, I think I will, but this is my opinion and I am entitled to it. If the mods don't want to let me give it then so be it.

I agree the companies should make a profit. But where does it stop? Should not the workers making the profit for the company earn enough to feed their children? What about making the mortgage? Why should the company managers get a bonus after losing millions of dollars and the working man getting squat? And on top of that his 401 K just lost 3/4 of its value. Get A Clue Man. For Gods Sake. Open your eyes and look at what is really happening in America.

Actually, I did. Your post was the entire reason for me inspecting shoes. My gf thought I was nuts. :)

2 cool and thank you for listening, there are a lot of good ol' USA products out there you just gota care enough to find'm and buy'm.

NOW STOP USEING PAPER DOLLARS. (little smiley thingy)

Recently moved back to my hometown,St. Catharines,Ontario a
"GM" (Generous Motors) town, after 25 yrs.

I agree with you that unions are a necessary evil, just like lawyers, taxes and morticians.

Best friend started at GM in 1977,without HS Diploma and now makes $40/hr + benifits. Can retire with a 80K buyout and a free car.Is this a good thing?

He and other union factory workers that I know do their mindless job day in and day out with very litle other intrests besides beer and hockey,it's Canada,Eh!

I realise that unions gave the American/Canadian worker a secure, safe working place but sometimes it seems a bit overkill.

Just my thoughts.

Ya, and the US Gov't had to "bailout" GM. Why, because they could not compete in the marketplace because of a multitude of things but basically their product was junk compared to the foreign cars. My parents and I used to buy American vehicles but that stopped years ago. Their product just could not compare to the foreign makes. Yes they are getting better now but why should I put my money in the second largest investment (other than a home) is something that has a poor reliability and crummy gas mileage?
No, they are not Chinese cars but the majority of good ones are not made here.

It's real easy to say, "Buy American" but not as easy to actually do it. Go through your home and take out everything that is not made in the US and get back to us, maybe left with a few SW handguns.

You have to look for "Made in USA" items outside the large retailers. They buy in bulk, get the cheapest price they can, don't worry about country of origin. Also the Internet.
I do most of my shopping at thrift stores, secondhand shops, etc., these days. Quality items at deep discounts.
Regarding the unions, back in 1976 a savvy Wall Street lawyer told me:
"The dark ugly secret of American Capitalism is that many companies are run for the benefit of their top officers, often the top officer." I don't think unions played much a role in Enron, Worldcom, Bernard Madoff, the
financial crisis, etc.
I personally have found "Made in China" =Poor Quality.

man, this has been my foremost project for several months now. the key is to look all the time, and THINK all the time. don't just blindly go buy junk. do a little homework. in the very recent past, i have purchased a living room suite made in my state, a mattress set made in my state, a new winter coat made in the u.s., a used FORD truck made in virginia, a tow strap made in the u.s., several guns and knives, all made in the u.s.

every time i have to go to ANY store, i try to see where stuff is from. i have been to stores that literally have no u.s. stuff, whatsoever. it is sickening. and a steady stream of people just keep mindlessly going in, pulling out cash, and taking the junk home.

good grief, PLYWOOD is made in china, almost all electronics and small appliances are made in china. just about every cheap plastic thing on the face of the earth is made in china.

my hope is that folks will just TRY to buy american stuff. sometimes it is impossible. but lots of times, it is possible to buy american, pay about the same, get good quality stuff, and actually support our own people in the process!

by the way, i just found some hane's socks AT WAL-MART!, that were made in the u.s.

we are gonna have to change our buying habits, if we are gonna make it!

Heck, my German car was made in Mexico:)

One of my German cars was made in Alabama. ;)

I buy American when I can, but it's not always practical. I'd like to buy USA made jeans, but I have to mail order them and don't know if they would fit properly or even what size I would wear, as sizes vary greatly between manufacturers. My "American" truck was made in Canada. Many "American" trucks, like Freightliner, are made in Mexico. Bananas don't grow in the U.S. Most fruits and veggies don't grow here year round, so if you want fresh, it may have come from Mexico, or South or Central America. There are no TVs made in the USA. No cameras made in the USA. Should we do without?
