Hydraulic Buffer?

You did great man. Here's what I have in my sport (originally thinking all I would need is ammo)

Sport - $700
Quad rail - $30 (thanks to Grover heads up
Magpul ladder rails - $25
Magpul buttstock - $60
Magpul pistol grip - $15
Front swing swivel - $30
VTAC sling - $45
Raptor ambi charging handle - $80
Troy tritium rear sights - $155
Trijicon tritium front sight post - $55
AGOC - $1338

Ouch!!! lol

That's just the rifle!!

mmmmmm...sounds nice...lol...hey, just off-hand, can i change out the sight posts on the flip-sights for luminescent ones, or do i gotta replace the entire sight? i'm at work, not near my rifle to see if they come all the way out...just curious

I'm more interested in hearing its effects on any kind of rifle. Just a basic I have my rifle set up how I like it, I dropped this in, it's better/worse than before. So I don't really think anything needs taken off. Who cares if it helps or not on a stock rifle when most of us are FARRRR from stock haha

If "We" run the gambit with different set ups,it will let people know if it's worth an extra $60 for a hyd buffer or just get the $20. H-2 when their "stock" buffer takes a dump and just be done with it.

Being I can almost match John's AR for weight,it will be two different opinions on "almost" the same AR. I think weapon weight is going to be one selling factor on this buffer. With a heavier weight weapon you will feel less felt recoil than with a lighter one. So,I'm looking for smoother felt recoil and also how the BCG feels durring its cycling while ejecting and feeding a new round. It might be worth the extra $$ if it helps keep the BCG from beating itself to death.

I don't think you will find a more independent study. John put up the hyd-buffer,we're putting up the different equipment, different brands of ammo and postage. In the end when John gets it back,he can shoot it again and see if it still has the same "feel" as it did before it left. He'll also know how many rounds have been through it,then keep track of what he shoots until it fails.

Remember Sporting Rifle. I did my first Sport on a lot of "seconds" and overruns and over a year ago, you could find them and get them cheap. I am very fortunate that it turned out as nice as it did...and no I have never used the FA and if that upper receiver hadn't had the Marines laser etched into it and I got it cheap it would have never happened. I didnt play on fixing mine up and after I shot it and realized that this wasnt my Daddy's M16 she became a dedicated hunting rifle. The one I am keeping looks like a Sport except for the tubular free float handguard, no front sight and no flash supressor. although the barrel was and still is the big thing for me and back then only certain models had this barrel. After some of the other models got this barrel the price came down on them. until the crazyness.

Zip how about a pic of the rifle with that shiny new ACOG and all the other goodies.

OK the buffer got here today, and it is snowing. Anyhow I guess I expected it to be bigger or something. I also expected way more hydraulic resistance than what it has. Too me it really doesnt feel like a hydraulic buffer but spring loaded inside. Whatever valving inside pretty well lets it free flow the fluid. You can tell it has a bit of damping but I guess I expected more, I would have thought it would be like a nitrogen filled shock I guess. It looks nice and is well made so in the next couple of days I will get out and shoot it through both sports and see what I get. :D

I think I was thinking more of something like the nitrogen shock as well. Didn't realize that there was a spring inside. Just manipulating it with your hands is there any twang?

I was just thinking the fluid would have to free flow to damped a sudden force quickly. If not the forces would run thru the shoulder more than a conventional spring which compresses pretty easily.

I was going to ask about the speed vs dampening. Like if you gave it a decent smack with your palm I would guess it stiffens a lot sooner. That's how the steering dampener works on my street bike. Turning the bars slow, you barely realize it's there, but try to shove the bars one direction or the other and they stop in a jiffy.

When I get if from Grover I'll go Myth Busters on it and take some slow motion video of the recoil...or at least I'll try since my camera will only shoot four seconds of slo-mo video at a time. But I won't be shooting for accuracy so I think I can line up and pull the trigger in that amount of time :D

Posted a couple of times on my experience with the Endine Restor, just want everyone to know that my AR-15 is not S&W incase i've inadvertantly misled anyone.

Mine is 6920, pretty much stock except for NV scope, RDS (switch them out as needed) and the hydraulic buffer.

Rootbrain...it doesnt matter what you shoot (although a lot of us are pretty partial to our S&W's) it all boils down to attitude and the fact that you are a contributing member of our little group. Some people have come in here with the attitude that their rifle is better because of a roll mark. underneath they are basically all the same and having a friendly helpfull noncompetitive forum is a plus.

That's why I'm here. Some sites, often referred to as TOS, and there are more than one, I hesitate when contributing. If some accessory or whatever doesn't match the paramilitary mind set, well its basically wasted money, time, whatever.

But never here.
