I am really tired of ammunition shortages...

I kinda considered the ammo shortage over and done with months ago. Stores around here are packed full with more stuff they had before the shortages began years back...08 really. You can order anything you want too. Just last month I bought several boxes of ammo...22 LR, .44 Mag, .9mm, .38, and .357. I also bought 4000 primers, 800 bullets, and an 8lb keg of HP-38. I could buy all that again right now if I decided to drive 20 minutes. Do you have any larger stores nearby?

With the current political situation even the most even keeled gun owners have taken to stockpiling. I haven't seen any .22 ammo on the shelves of local big box stores in a couple of years. When someone who runs low on ammo now sees some for sale, he/ she now buys much more than previously. I am surprised that the production hasn't even come close to the demand in parts of the country. I've been waiting for some gun powder for reloading shotgun shells for many months (now pushing a year) and this is from a source that used to get it in all the time.

I'm in upstate NY, we have plenty of both.

About a year ago, when I lived in Lyons, NY I was surprised at how much ammo the small gun stores in the area had, and Wal Mart or the large online sites had nothing>>>>>>Especially .22 It was a little pricey......but they had it, especially if you bought a gun of the caliber ammo you wanted to buy from them. Usually gave a 10% off for at lest 90 days for ammo and accessories after a sale also.

I've found that.....

Since Sandy Hook and the ensuing panic over potential gun laws ammo and reloading materials have been hard to impossible to find. Why does this situation continue? This is America, dammit, the land of Capitalism and entrepreneurialism. Demands are supposed to be filled by new supply. That's basic Econ 101. Why are we still unable to find 22 ammo and reloading powder after more than two years? Has America fallen to such a sorry state that we can't rely on our manufacturing strength? We used to win wars through being a manufacturing giant. Now...phffft! Even if we can't make enough on our own, what about importing goods from other countries? You'd think countries with cheap labor would step in and fill the need. I guess not.

I've found that economic laws can be bent or broken. Some laws of the land have been enacted to preserve economic health, but they underestimate human resourcefulness, obstinacy, indecisiveness, unreliability, arrogance and just plain greed.

There is plenty of powder and ammo here. .22lr sits on the shelf a long time now days. All is well and shooting is fun.

In my area, it's still catch-as-catch-can for .22LR at all the Wal-Marts... And I think they even stopped getting .22WMR all together (not even a place-holder ticket).

But in my area, when the store gets some in, a few Families come in, wipe the shelves (3 boxes per person), buy some Zip-Lock baggies, then go home, repackage them into 50 round units and sell them at the Fleamarkets (where people don't realize the difference).

How do I know? I used to work part-time in the Sporting Goods section and still keep in touch with the Mgrs. ;)

Anyone is free to attempt to obtain financing and construct their own ammo plant. Since this has not happened en masse, I would guess that the involved calculations do not show it to be economically viable or a good investment.

Seems that you have not heard of Operation Choke Point.
The administration has pressured banks to not do business with any business firearms related.
Look it up for a complete explanation.

Idk it must be a regional thing. 6 months back my lgs got 500 S&W 15-22 and half a million 22lr ammo.

This is a local mom and pop store but they have high volume and high product turnover. They buy everything the distributor has and blow em out the door. Spring time they were selling POF 308 rifles for $1500 when the avg price is $2700. Before that brand new M&P 357 for $350

Time to try what is in stock?

........................

I have not seen any Unique for sale in 2 years. Same with 2400. Finally found some 4064 (the 3 I use most) recently but no more since I bought the one can.........................
Maybe you should try using the powder that is for sale on the shelf, instead of the "Unicorn" powder you have always used. My shooting has not declined because of lack of supplies. I'm wearing my chrome plated Kevlar flame suit so just fire away. :D

Depends on location

Don't know where you live but here in Southern NJ everything is readily available from .22's to powders, primers,
Its much better than it was 2 years ago, prices reasonable except for some gougers usually independent gun shops

Since I bought my 1911, I've started picking up and saving my brass for the first time and plan to start reloading this winter. :)

ammo shortages?

I've had no problem at in 2015 in getting anything I've wanted. Cabelas and other stores have had plenty of anything I've been looking for. And lately I've been ordering from Freedom Munitions which is less expensive and allows me to shoot in greater quantities than ever. So I'm not sure what you are looking for. I shoot .380, .38 Special, .38 +P, .357, 9mm and .45. Maybe some parts of the country have larger shortages than others but you can always use Freedom Munitions or someone else so I hope you can find what you are looking for.

Apparently stores in Montana did not get the memo that the ammo/reloading components shortage is over.

I think it's regional. In my area the smaller LGSs have .22lr the chain stores have it only occasionally. For what it's worth a WM sporting goods manager said the 22 buyers are the retired guys who come in with their wives in the mornings. I don't play the "dawn patrol" game at WM so I really don't know.

All other ammo is plentiful as is rifle powder such as 4895 and 4064. Primers and bullets are also plentiful. Pistol powder is still scarce.

just started shooting a little over 2.5 yrs ago (yeah trying to find .22 for the old Colt handed down to me was quite the challenge in 2013 lol) and had to rely on some luck and good timing to find something i needed in store or online for a good while. But i too will say 2015 has been better.
The local Gander has had .22 on the shelf, a new Cabelas went in here that too can have stock, and both have been just fine for my 9mm needs especially when i buy online and pickup in stores.

And as i view this as a hobby and enjoy my range time, i'm glad it has gotten a bit better. And maybe as i'm a relative newbie, i dont know how nice it was for the old time shooters for cheap and plentiful ammo so what i'm used to is what it is.....

Yesterday, I did see a lot of 9mm Blazer Brass for not too bad of a price nowadays. It was less than $14.00 per box.

Blazer Brass has been my go-to for range fun and practice and I've had good luck on sites from Cabelas and Gander as on occasion they've had Blazer Brass maybe 12.99; and i've been able to get UMC and Herters (both in brass, and they work just fine in my FS9 and 9c) as low as 10.99/50. Even Dick's stores once in awhile will have UMC at a very good price.

just a thought

Southern Oregon has not had a steady supply of 22's of any kind and pistol powder.

Walmart, all three locations locally, has not had a 22 delivery in nearly two months.

I'm thinking they are not trying very hard.

The larger sporting good stores are about the same.

The smaller LGS are gouging with whatever they find.

It IS getting old.

Yea, I wish the Cabela's in Madison, WI was closer. They seem to have .22 more often than not and plenty of the other calibers. Not stellar prices but the current competitive prices. The local WM never has .22 and rarely other calibers that I might be looking for. I don't reload so I can't speak to how the powder supplies are.

For a while I had to get most of my supply from Midway but that will be on hold for a while. Their shipping isn't a bargain and now they limit to one box versus two. And that includes the box of 325 Federal Auto Match. Fortunately I do have enough to keep my .22 revolvers active for a while. :D

I will have to look into Palmetto when the current supply on hand dwindles.
