I Bit The M&P Bullet

I finally ordered my 45C today from Buds, and I can't wait to try it out. Being an old 1911 guy I was excited to see S&W offered thumb safeties, but my hand shape can not handle the high safety on the M&P so I will remove it as soon as possible.

I'm researching fast and furious to find out as much as possible about my new toy. Any advice about any quirks that I need to know about is welcome.

Congrats! The M&P's are reliable guns. I own the M&P9 and M&P45 full size. They eat any ammo I gave them and reliability is up there. I would feel comfortable using them in CCW as well.

I do not know which 1911's you own; whether they are lightweight or steel guns. I also own a SW1911PC all steel gun and, personally, I feel that a 40 oz gun absorbs the recoil of a 45ACP round better than a polymer gun. But, that's just me and my hand talking here. YMMV.

Picked up a M&P 45c a while back. Trigger is smooth, but on the heavy side, compared to my Glocks, at least two or three pounds heavier. Not as accurate as my small 1911 Ultra Carry, but I think its the trigger making the difference. That last, 8th round is almost impossible to load into the magazines, harder then any other auto magazine I have used.

In its favor, the gun "feels" a lot better in the hand then the Glock counterpart, better pointing, and more controllable, which is important. Its been 100% reliable with about 400 rounds thru it so far. A little thinner then the Glock as well. Like feel, recoil is subjective, but I find controllability to be fine with this gun, probably because of the grip design, and the low barrel to hand ratio that limits muzzle flip. All in all, a solid choice for someone who wants a light weight .45 in an other then 1911 design. By the way, it is available without the manual safety, lock, and magazine disconnect, if desired.

I grabbed the model with the lock for resale reasons, and it's easy to remove. My understanding is the 45C does not come with the magazine disconnect. I hope I'm correct because I would have to remove it if mine has one.

Congrats on the M&P purchase. I have a 9C and I have a "dark Earth" 45c on order. I've shot around 1300 rounds in the 2 months that I have owned the 9c.

Another Congrats on your M&P 45c purchase. I baught one a little over a year ago with the antisipation of Illinois coming into the 21 Century with a CC law but I still enjoy shooting it recreationaly. Good Choice....

I keep shooting my 45c and lovin it. It's become my "fav" 45.

Put a HiViz front sight on mine. Last trip to range using hardball, 15yds 50 shots in silhouette target 2.7" timed fire. To me one of the "assets" of the M&P line is the trigger configuration. To me it's shape is like a S&W revolver trigger and there is no DA/SA thing going on. One grip, one trigger squeeze, consistent groups.

It's interesting you equate the trigger to a S&W Revo as my daily summer carry is a 340PD, and my field gun is a 629-5 Mountain Gun. I should be right at home with the 45C format.
