I can't not watch Hunt for Red October

You love Sean Connery?

Or is it Alec Baldwin?

Nah! It's got to be Tim Curry. playing Dr. Yevgeny Petrov.

Or, James Earl jones as Admiral Greer.

Or, Scott Glenn as Commander Bart Mancuso.

Or, Sam Neill as Captain Vasili Borodin.

Or, Joss Ackland as the Soviet Ambassateur Andrey Lysenko.

Yes. I rewatched it the other day too.:D

Other than that what could make someone want to watch it again?
More chicks in the movie, maybe? :D

All I can say is where did the writer get some of his info from.......

When the book was first released, Clancy got that very question from the Navy.

Great film, and I have to see it whenever it airs. A few of the changes made from the book I'm not greatly fond of, but the story has to be made to run in two hours and not have unexplained holes in it.. I think Clancy had a lot to do with the screenwriting on that one to keep it close to the book. Some of his later books---->film had some significant differences that were much worse (The Sum Of All Fears was one of them).

Clancy had serious friends in sort of high places. I saw a interview and he was asked that question and that was his answer.

As others have stated most times the movie is not near as good as the book. Red October is well worth being watched with the shortening changes multiple times The rest of the movies-- yuck!

I have read at least two times every thing he wrote in the Jack Ryan series, up till his death. Those co-written books just did not work for me. Red Storm Rising while not a Ryan and co-written was a serious exception to my rule.

One book of Clancy's that hasn't made it to film yet, that I would love to see as a well-made movie, is Without Remorse. John Kelly became my favorite character after Cardinal Of The Kremlin came out, and if it can be made without a big story change, it could be a really good film. Had they made it ten years ago, I think Matt Damon would have been a good lead. I'd say that Chris Pine would be a good one now, but they've already made him into a young Jack Ryan in another recent film.

Among the many great things about The Hunt for Red October, I think its greatest achievement is showing us how subtitles should be handled. The Russian scenes open with the characters speaking Russian, with subtitles. In short order, the characters begin speaking English . . .

Unlike Narcos or Narcos Mexico, or The Passion of the Christ, movies that you don't watch as much as read. You're in Mexico, or Judea. We know you're in Mexico or Judea, and you're really speaking Spanish or Aramaic. If I have to read a movie, I may as well stick to the book.

Rant over . . .

I dunno. "Das Boot" only works for me in German with subtitles. The dubbed version is not so hot with some of the lip syncing reaching Godzilla levels of hilarity. Not what you want in a moody submarine story.

I can honestly say that it is one movie I have never watched alone. The first time I watched it was while visiting my dad. He ran his chemical supply (Janitorial Supplies) business out of his house. We jokingly called it "The House O Soap", the living room was part of his warehouse, stacks of cases of bleach and other stuff everywhere. He had his couch set up with an aisle of merchandise which had a television at the end. He had an old VCR and about a dozen tapes, the only one worth watching was "The Hunt for Red October". I watched it the first time with dad and liked it. My son went with me to visit dad and on one of his trips away from the house we watched the only thing worth watching "The Hunt for Red October", my second, his first. He loved it, I liked it. Then over the years whenever my son and I would travel over to the Westside to visit dad we somehow ended up watching THFRO, my son had it memorized and would say the lines before the scene. I think altogether I have seen that movie six times, slept through the last few scenes a couple times. I forgot to mention that the couch was also the fold out bed for visitor, I'll never forget the aroma of that house...like sleeping in a clean bathroom...I've woke up in one a time or two.
