I can't shoot my new model 27. From June 1982.

Nope, I cant see why you cant bring yourself do pull the trigger. You are being selfish, think of how the 27 feels. She was born to shoot, but your treating her like she isnt capable and only good for being a trophy. Im sure she feels worthless.

Actually,I think that you're being unselfish.Shoot it,enjoy it...life is short.
What do you care if your heirs get a hundred bucks less for it,because you gave it some careful, loving use.

Whether to shoot or not shoot the gun is totally up to you as you own the revolver. There's a camp up here that feels all guns should be shot and there's also a camp that feels it's OK not to shoot a pristine revolver. Only you can decide in the long run and there is no wrong decision no matter what you decide to do.

"No wrong decision." I like that.

Do you have another M27 to shoot? If you do, well, if you like this one as a trophy, no big deal. If you do not, well, you're depriving yourself of a wonderful experience.

Beautiful gun! I'm with you on not shooting it. If you don't have a shooter grade 27 or 28 you can always get one.

I happen to be more or less in the "if you can't shoot it, it isn't a gun" camp, but last year I bought a really cherry M37 blued SB, which I did shoot (it shoots 158s to POA), but I can't bring myself to carry it, because I know what it will look like after a while. So I'm carrying a first-edition 642 which doesn't show wear but isn't really as good a carry gun for me. Sometimes I carry a beater nickel 37 which is sighted for 125gr Nyclad and 110gr Silvertip, and that's a good gun, but I really don't trust the ammo as much as I do 158gr.

If you're careful, you can shoot it. The factory did already, anyway. You'll have to make up your own mind on carrying.

Wow, beautiful firearm. I can understand why you question shooting it..
However, I've told the story before,,, A year or so ago , I picked up a Browning / Winchester model 12 , 20 ga. mfg. in 1989 new in the box. Some guy got it and never shot it ,, never enjoyed it.
I've run about two flats of shells thru it so far shooting sporting clays, enjoying it quite a bit.
I love my kids and grandkids.. But one of these days my kids ,, grandkids ,, great grand kids,,etc. will get my firearms.. They will shoot them,, sell them to some stranger,, mis-use them ,,neglect them,, or who knows what..
Damn it ,, I'm going to enjoy them while I can ,, :D :D...
If you enjoy just looking at it ,,that's OK ! If you enjoy shooting it ,,that's OK too !

Shooting it and taking care of it go hand and hand. It was designed to be shot and I assume you will take great care of it. It's kind of fun to get them dirty and then clean them back up:)

At the pace great revolvers are increasing in value it is the only thing you can 'use' and get more than you paid for it later!
Enjoy it either way, it is a real beauty

I'm one that gets a lot of pleasure from looking, handling & shooting even what I regard as special ones because I probably can't take them with me when its over for me. That is a real beauty & so well preserved really a stellar find!

I've got this "bumper chrome" beater I could swap ya Allen. Of course there ain't a box, tools or papers, been fired a bit, the dentist I got it from must have had major "sweaty palms" that darkened the wood. A lot older too N7558XX. Glad to help out if'n I can though. Joe

I have a few guns that I prefer to keep unfired.(Rarely are they Smiths)
I also get a little feeling of sadness when I buy an unfired gun that came from an estate. The owner missed the full experience with the gun.

Are you going to rely on the sale of this gun to benefit you in your retirement? If not, then take it out and shoot it a few times for the sheer enjoyment of it, it will clean up just fine. It won't depreciate enough that you will miss any meals.

Very Nice 27
