I changed the red dot on my Model 41

I was never happy with my cheap red dot on my Model 41. It was not an elegant mount and, although it was serviceable, I never was happy with it.

So I looked around for a mount to fit the rear dovetail. It was suggested here that I look into BME up in Vermont. I called and he made me one. It took a little trimming but I finally got it to fit.

I mounted a Burris FastFire II on it, which is a far better red dot than the one I had on it.

I've been to the range with it a few times and it is a great combination. It is more reliable, more accurate and acquisition is faster. My times are a bit better for a five shot string too. I like the position (rear) better than the middle position I had previously. I don't understand the 'middle' vs 'rear' positioning, but so far the rear position works for me.

Anyone have any input?
TIA,
Mike

I have never shot one of the newer sights like yours but they look really fast and I like rear mount a lot better, thats a beautiful rig! Jeff

Very nice! I need to look into that setup...mine has an older Tasco propoint 10moa red dot. A great, very accurate shooter (dime size 10 shot groups at 25 yds from a rest), but a lot of "plumbing" sitting on top of the barrel which I dislike and makes the gun "top-heavy"...thanks for the idea and the pic!

I have some input, I want one on my Model 41, looks like it belongs on the gun? I have a dot on mine and it is kind of top heavy, I might just try one.

Anyone have any input?
TIA,

I agree Mike and want one also, plus would rather try this before drilling and tapping for a mount..

m41 w/dot

i have a 5 1/2 in. 41 with a leupold delta point on it .i use for steel and uspsa type shooting .it is an awesome gun.

Wonderful photo and suggestion. I just purchased a M41 with an Aimpoint Micro H-1 coming in the mail next week. The dovetail adapter looks much cleaner than the screw on adapter I purchased for $7.00. Going to give BME a call. Thanks for posting.

Can you provide more info about BME. Also I gues it replaces the rear sight?

Just purchased one of the newer 7" DT barrels but the sight does not look it can be removed. What type of barrel is yours?

I can't bring myself to put an optic on my 41, but the new sight looks nice for an optic.

I have the model 22A-1 and prefer mounting the red dot towards the rear also.

I popped an Ultra-Dot L/T on my 41 a few years ago, it works and looks great as it's not too overwhelming on the gun and matches the scale very well.

As a side note, the L/T model has a little battery drawer that slides out to replace the battery, much better than taking the sight of to do so IMHO.

Can you post a close up pic? Thanks

Model 46

My 46 w/ old-school red dot. Since it is already D&T, I prolly shouldn't mess with it. But I much prefer the look, balance and size of the Burris... Maybe get a 41 to setup as such...
