I found a colt python... But one problem

I decided against buying that truck. Since I'm still young. My insurance would be between 200 and 400 a month. At least I will get the blue hear discount one day. Lol I decided to wait to the year end sales. So my S10 is getting all the necessary repairs.

My local gunsmith is hoping to get me a new python. He wants one to so he is on the hunt.

Well after messing around on facebook. I came across a brand new colt python. But there is a problem. It's out of state. I don't want to announce where. Because I know I'm not the only one looking. It's a 6 inch model and it cost 2100. The same gun would sale here in Texas 400 dollars less. I am looking for a 4.25 model.

That would be the "No Hair" discount, unless you are female. Sounds like there's two problems. It's too much and the wrong barrel length. For that kind of money get what you want.

Yeah, I pass. I will have to get it delivered to my local gunsmith. And it's not what I want. The same python would only cost around 1600 here. And I want the 4.25 barrel length.
I had a 6 inch GP100. I thought it was awesome. But realized just how impractical 6 inch barrel was after carrying around my 4 inch 586. The python will be my last revolver. There isn't anything much better than a python.
The walking dead kinda ruined 6 inch pythons for me. I hate Rick Grimes. He doesn't deserve that gun.

It's a fine line and only you can decide. It is probably around ~$500 over fair market if there wasn't a pandemic and extremely high demand for anything firearms related. Yet, if you want one, now, and can do so without affecting the household, go for it.

On occasion, I will pay way more then fair market if I want it, condition, and I want it.

We as collectors do need to be mindful of this thought process though...it can support an elevated market. Then again, go find another one. I know, I know, not much help. Whatever your decision, I am sure it is the right one for you at the time.

The 6 inch isn't what I want. I hope to carry it after some practice. A 4.25 inch will serve me much better.

The insurance was going to be or just as much as my car payments. It was kinda funny hearing the insurance girl chuckle when she was listing the prices.

About the python being my last revolver. That will be true. I'm going to start collecting retro semi auto pistols.

Best to be patient and get what you want. You'd always feel like you had settled for it and at that premium price it would always be irksome.

I'm looking at getting another 44 Special Blackhawk and really want another stainless model. Almost bid for the win on a few blued models on Gunbroker but stopped short each time knowing I wouldn't be satisfied.

My ‘75 colt python 357/6” out shot everything to this day. The bank vault lock up was the best I ever felt. I sold it to start a business.

My LGS has the same exact python for $4,000. I was thinking about a layaway. But at this stage in my life it’s not cost effective to buy it. That’s a lot of dough.

Be patient and keep watching the Sportsman’s Warehouse website. They frequently have them for $1499.

If you are looking for function why overpay for what a SW can do or another gun...if you want the brand, the lore and the prancing pony there are so many earlier versions out there that will serve you better. I wanted one too, but for what they want for them, there are other things I prefer. So my old models will suffice.

Colt Pythons are really nice revolvers. They have a distinct appearance and will draw attention at the range. They are usually very, very accurate revolvers, but they are not my first choice for what might be considered a "combat revolver". The new Pythons have a lock work that is far more durable than the old ones, but for the money, I'd pick a S&W L-frame or a Ruger GP-100 and spend the leftover money on a good holster and some ammo. In my book, Pythons are for looking cool and accurate slow fire, S&W and Ruger are working sidearms.

I used to have blue hear, now, I don't have much of any color anymore. That being said, I've logged a s--t-load of miles and experiences. SO, the recommendation is:
1) NEVER pay premium for ANYTHING
2) NEVER pay MSRP unless you've searched the entire country for it for 2 yrs.
3) THEN, pay max. $1450 for a 6" Python that you will sell in 30 yrs for much more. (yes, I know that's MSRP, but I'm weak)
4) Then get yourself a good 4" S&W or Ruger with the money you saved buying your Python "smart"; and carry it for 30+ years.
5) When you sell the Python in 2051, buy a new truck with the profit and don't forget to clean your S&W or Ruger if you are still carrying everyday.
