My son recently graduated for college with a degree in EE and Computer Science. He moved to Austin Texas to start a new job. I picked this 640-1 up today at the monthly Saxet gun show for $380 OTD. I cleaned and gave it a shine with some Mother's polish. I gave it to him today as a graduation/new job present.

That's a perfect gift for such a milestone. I bet he'll keep it for a long time. Excellent choice in grips, by the way.

That there is the start of a family heirloom.
Be interesting to see what tales it will tell in 50 years.
Well done.

A good buy and an excellent choice! Used to abhorr the "hammerless" revolvers. I have a 640-1 and wouldn't part with it! Thanks for keeping your son safe. Pass along this web site so he can continue his education in firearms and concealed carry.

I've been thinking of getting a set of Pachmayr grips like those for my 640. First pic I've seen of a 640 with those grips.

Way to go Jimmy!

A great little pocket gun for not to mucho dinero.

When I graduated, my dad gave me a 657 mountain gun. That was the best graduation present that I have received.

Wish your son the best luck in his new career.

I just put a set of those on my new 60-15. Very nice and very concealable in a new Rhino holster.

I have the same on one of my 640ND's, they are just slightly longer than the grip frame, and make for a more pleasant trip to the range.

Very nice! Who wouldn't want a nice pre-lock 640!

Nice Pic

I am very pleased with mine and know the graduate will be also! Congratulations to the graduate and the father, both have achieved more than the average man by completing what they started.

Thats really nice getting a gun from Dad, I will do the same for my son when he is of age.... My Dad had a S&W 34-1 that was real nice, from my Grandfathers store. I asked him where it was, he said," I sold it for $250 to a friend." I was hurt for awhile......

Nice gift and a very good choice.

I have a M640 and worried a bit about not having a hammer to "cock". Now I look upon any concealable revolver WITH a hammer as a possible liability.

Great choice Dad! It looks very nice. Congrats to your son on the graduation and new job!

I have a 640-1 and will never part with it. I did put CT laser grips on it though. You did well on the price too!
