Geezzz, I was worried starting this thread would yield me a dreaded "ding". So much so, I even enclosed a plea of civility.

Turns out our fearless leader forged a path right to the gutter for us! Whodda thunk it?:D:)

What do you mean?

He's just talking about melting some guns. ;)

:D

I'd be willing to get together with Charlize and discuss melting mine. ;)
Can somebody send her my phone number please? :D

Well, I'm just incensed!

I merely meant that I'm always open to a new perspective from immigrants from failed or failing societies who come to the US and offer us a new, greater vision on how to do things better.
Really- that's all I was thinking.
Honest.

I don't really care for Mr. Penn or most of his buddies for that matter. And if he wants to destroy his 65 guns for some "righteous cause" I guess that's his decision. I don't get excited about their hypocrisy or their p.r. antics anymore. I'm sure his and Ms. Theron's security teams are adequately armed to protect them.

I just thought this might be news worthy to this crowd. Please keep comments civil and in accordance with forum rules. Thanks!

Charlize Theron convinces Sean Penn to melt his guns into a sculpture? | Fox News

The ""original ""Bad Boy"" having found a way to get rid of his collection is STUPendous and laughable to say the least. Oh well, all in the name of idiocy. His thing is hes rich and can always start another collection after he breaks up with her.

I thought he had a criminal background that prevented him from being in possession of firearms, hmm. If I remember during the aftermath of Katrina he was in New Orleans wearing a pistol on a "humanitarian" mission. I could be mistaken on his legal status.

He's a ""celebrity"" which means he doesnt have to follow the same rules we do.

Our liberal friends, no doubt are gleeful, but one wonders how it is that Mr. Penn got those 65 guns to begin with.

I cannot respect anyone that can only make a living by pretending to be someone else.

Non issue, not news worthy.

Like Mark Wahlberg who called Charlton Heston the Devil, but makes a rich living making movies like Sniper and Lone Survivor. How many of us has paid to see those? And not necessarily in the theater but on rentals or paid TV.

That article also reads: "...Bette Midler, Michael Douglas, Gwyneth Paltrow, Chelsea Handler, Sarah Silverman, Kathryn Bigelow and Emma Thompson also attended the swanky charity affair..."

It's an anti-gun convention - except for Chelsea Handler - how in the heck did SHE get an invitation? Her dress probably had "Live Free Or Die" silk-screened on it. :)

I wonder how many of them were driven to the party by a guy carrying a gun.

I scanned the article but couldn't bear to read the whole thing. I did see where Theron's mother shot her father to death but that doesn't justify trying to get EVERY BODY to get rid of guns. There may be a lot more to that story. She may have saved her life and the life of her daughter by shooting him. Some people that get shot get shot for good reason. If she chooses not to keep gun that is her privilege and more power to her. But she has no right or reason to try to influence others.

That said I totally dismiss all those hollywood types, yes, even the good looking ones, when it comes to opinions and attitudes on social or political issues. None of them live in the real world. None of them understand how the world really works and are spoiled and pampered past the point of having a proper perspective, and most of them have a head full of bad wiring due to drugs, alcohol, or delusions of grandeur.

I don't spend any time thinking about or caring what any of them think, do, or say.

...and I used to like Charlize Theron...

My then girlfriend (now wife) was warned early on that my guns and motorcycle came first...and weren't going anywhere. That should be a condition of any serious enthusiast in a serious relationship.

Nothing happening in Hollyweird surprises me.
