A LGS has a clean 4506 for $300. I think only 1 mag, no box, no frills.

Is there any advantage, or disadvantage, concerning this gun vs. a 1911? I have shot my brother's $1200 Kimber. Yes, it was incredibly nice, but I cannot justify that kind of coin for a range toy. A real basic 1911 would run me around $500, so I am thinking that buying the 4506 is a no brainer.

I think I just answered my own question. Sorry.

ps..He also had a S&W 60 2" for $250. I should probably buy both?

For $550 I wouldn't have walked out without both of them - and if I did I'd be getting my booty back there as fast as possible. The M60 in decent shape would go for about that much around here...

Hmmmmm....there is a 4506-1 for sale here locally, and I am trying to resist it since I already have a 4566. The price is $450 and I am finding THAT hard to resist, if I had been in your shoes three hunnert dolla bills woulda have jumped out of my pocket so fast ole Ben's hair woulda been flying.

Alright, alright...twist my arm. I will head over in the a.m. and buy both. This is a new shop that I visited today for the first time. I should mention that I DID buy the 6" Ruger Blackhawk .357 they had for $200.

I guess 3 handguns in 2 days can be justified. It's not like I am buying **** guns.

Hehe and I just checked the cash in my gun jar and I think it might just put it in my wallet tomorrow just in case I might accidentally try to get hold of the guy selling the 4506 here....

Post pix when you get them home - you are getting a twofer in my book!

Will do on pics, although I live in the PRNJ, and must suffer under the "one gun a month" law here.

I can take delivery of the Ruger on June 18.

The 2 smiths will come home with me in July and August (assuming I get to them before someone else)

God, I hate this state.

I'd buy the two Smiths. $250.00 for the Model 60 is a pretty decent price and I think $300.00 for the 4506 is a very good price.

You'll love taking that 4506 to the range. I love shooting my 5906, although it would be a bear to carry. But, that's a different story.

That's an insane deal for a 4506, hopefully you wind up with it!

Comparing my 4566 to the Kimber I used to own, the S&W will have a higher bore axis and a different trigger & safety system to get used to, but should be much more reliable with all types of ammo. My Kimber Ultra 3" was very finicky about defensive ammo, so I sold it and bought a few S&W 3rd Gen 45's. Problem solved. :D

*Also, the 4506 has better all-around safety features than a 1911, IMO. The best thing is that you can load/unload the gun with the safety engaged.

Those 3 guns for $750?!? I was about to say how jealous I was - until I saw that a) you live in Jersey :D and b) they limit you to only 1 handgun a month. That SUX! I guess I understand why your handgun prices are so low - the state won't hardly let people buy them!

Seriously though, if they are all in 90% or better condition, in my neck of the woods, those 3 guns would bring a MINIMUM of $350 each if you wanted to price them cheap to move 'em quick. If you were willing to hold out a little longer for the right buyers, probably closer to $1500.

But the state wouldn't stop you buying all 3 at the same time if you wanted, and that's probably why our prices are so much higher around here...

GOT 'EM!!! No pics yet.

In the PRNJ, we can beg the State Police for a one gun a month exemption, which I will be doing. It will take about a month to get permission, which beats having to wait 2.5 months for the guns.

Thanks for enabling my addiction, fellas!

Never a problem around here. Someone is always willing to help. :)

Those are two nice handguns for a very fair price, if all is well with them mechanically and cosmetically. A 4506 is not a 1911 and some will say + to that and some will say -, but even the naysayers ought to agree a 4506 in good shape for $300 is a pretty nice price.

I'll take three of each for that price. Congrats on your find.

I was tempted to post a snide remark, but Im not going to. At our disposal is the best research engine anywhere. Dont be afraid to buy some books and spend a little time educating yourself. There is not a member of this Forum that has not rolled the dice on the purchase of a gun. We have all kicked ourselves for passing on a gun or just paying a little bit to much. So What. Its all part of learning. Mike 2796
