I used to be a hothead too, but my time in the Army and a tour overseas, as well as recently getting married have calmed me down a lot. I don't get as worked up as I used to. It's not worth it. I'm not going to ruin my day or waste my time fighting some scummer.
After the things I've been through I'm not going to let some dirty dirt with an IQ of 3 force me into having an assault and battery charge on my record, or worse, getting into a roadside shootout.
If you fight everyone who angers you, you're going to be fighting 3 times a day........there are mentally ill people out there, people with nothing to lose, drunks, etc. This guy may have been off his meds, who knows. You don't know who you're dealing with.
Like was said, nothing ticks someone off more than smiling and waving when they are irate and flipping you off.......or just ignoring them.
This is also the reason I have a CC permit. There are people out there just looking for a fight, and sometimes you're the one randomly selected.
Even the toughest people can't win all the time, there are a lot of people with short fuses who got baited into fights and lost........sometimes getting put 6 feet under. I have read too many stories of people who get into road rage incidents, pull off to the side of the road to "have it out" and then it ends with shots being fired and an ordinary guy, maybe a father, is dead because he let his temper take control and the bad guy got the drop on him.
