i have a question for the veterans on the forum.

I always carried a cue scuffer. It was peace time and our only true mission was to put hours on the pilots and birds.
What's a Cue scuffer you ask? It's used to shape a pool/cue tip to make it crowned.A flat tip don't shoot English to well and it was always an advantage with house cues.It got me out of a lot of duty when I kicked some butt using a clearly warped stick against some fool with a $100 stick.;)

Who said peace time Army was easy?

Not exactly a good luck charm but I had two things with me virtually 100% of the time.

A pocket New Testament. Always good reading there.

A St Christopher's medal.

Whether it was luck, Divine Intervention or what, I made it through.

Cross of St James on my dog tag chain, a Randal Model 18 on my IBA, and a USMC bayonet on my webgear.

A sterling silver cross from my Grandfather via Holland. Was on my dog tags.

In the 'Nam, lots and lots of ammo, more ammo, yet more ammo, and a couple of LSA containers, which started out full. Other than water, that was the most important part of being lucky. The ability to move quietly also helped.

When I flew combat missions during Desert Storm, Joint Forge, and Allied Force, the crews were required to sanitize their uniforms; no nametags, patches, etc., only embroidered rank. Wore dog tags and carried an ID card, government issued credit card and some cash (in case home base was closed and I had to divert, which happened). All personal items went into an envelope or zip-lock bag and were stored in the Intelligence Section. The only thing that I carried that was mine (not issued) was a Benchmade knife, which I still have.

A small picture of my wife and my lucky P-38...........

My P-38 made me feel lucky when I opened the pound cake. :D

The luckiest thing I ever carried was my DD214 right out the gate of Ft. Bragg in my Ford, headed south at a high rate of speed! ;)

Bye-bye, 82nd!
Bye-bye U.S. Army!
Hope you miss me! (NOT)

I never really carried any luck charm or good luck piece. I recall having a rabbit's foot once, but, as I am prone to do, I lost it.

I still came home and happily carried my DD214 out the gate of Ft. Lewis, WA.

Don't know if its lucky or not, but I always had my P38 can opener an my VSAK for 20+yrs, and both were in my pocket during two years in Iraq, and still with me today.

Holy Card

I carried a Holy Card of St. Michael The Archangel, The Patron Saint of members of the military. I left my crucifix that I usually wear everyday at home. I was afraid my dog tags would ruin the gold chain and I would loose it.

Iraq 2006

The closest to a lucky charm I had at times was a Kabar. I traded some booze to a Jar...I mean a Marine for for it. I never used it for more than opening crates and slicing balogna, etc. but it made me feel better...

I was a reservist and never saw combat or an overseas deployment, however, I always carried that paper backed, King James Bible that the army provided. It was always in my fatigue shirt pocket.

Luck is for guys who don't prepare, at least that's what my last First Sergeant told me.
