I'll get right to the point here.

Back on May 21, I put an ad in the "Want to Buy" section of this forum. I was looking for a High Standard barrel for my old Remington Rand 1911A1 from WWII. I figured if anyone had one, I was gonna have to pony up anywhere from a hundred bucks on up, depending on condition. So I put the ad up, logged out, and didn't think any more about it.

Well, just a few hours later, I see in my e-mail that I have a new PM on the forum.

The message is from a man who we all know is well-versed in 1911s...Lee Barner up in Tennessee. He says to send him my mailing info and he'll get a barrel off in the mail to me. No mention of money or shipping costs.

Lemme tell y'all...your mouth really does drop open when something surprises you out of the blue like that.

Two or three days later, I get the package and open it. Inside is an almost pristine HS barrel, complete with an even more pristine link and pin. It just doesn't get any better than this.

For those of you who know Lee, this won't surprise you one bit...and I sure hope I'm not embarrassing him by telling this little story. I just feel like folks ought to know who the Good Guys on this forum are.

So here's to Lee Barner. I don't believe this forum would be what it is today without folks like him.

Jim, many of us have been around long enough we can forget how luck we are to have this very special place to share our friendships with others. A special tip of the hat to Lee Barner, for his kind act.

I wish I could brag about the forum member who gave me my new chainsaw, but alas he wants to be anonymous . We are blessed with lots of good guys here.

Yes, great forum and members. Lots of kind giving people here. One of them is " 1blindref " I was going to buy a S&W box from him and he sent it to me no-charge as a thank you for my service. I told him what a nice gesture, besides free breakfast at Hy-Vee that's the first gift of this kind.
I told him I would "play it forward" to other veterans. I give older Veterans rides up to the VA in Iowa City now, but will do something special for this.

You can't even walk through my gun room without bumping into several items that Lee has sent my way..all by the goodness of his heart. I have had the pleasure of meeting him in person as we are both west-tennesseeans.
And quite frankly I'd like to be more like him.

Good thread.

Roger

Good on ya Mr. Barner!

What a wonderful show of generosity and inclusiveness. There's not near enough of it in this world.
