I have to vent, sorry... LG (Life's not Good!)......Update and final resolve post #84

We had a Kitchen Aid dishwasher when we moved into the house in '82. The washer and dryer were at that point 22 year old Maytags. Almost every appliance in that house was older than the house was! We didn't discover all the problems that house had until we moved in. The stove was an old Hotpoint from '65. The refrigerator was a Whirlpool from '66. The first thing to go was the washer at about 25 years old. The transmission died. It was replaced with a mid range GE and the next thing was the dishwasher, it died about 1997, at about 25 years old. Was really noisy for a long time. Replaced with a Kenmore that was amazingly quiet compared to any previous dishwasher we owned. The refrigerator slowly "faded away" and just wasn't keeping cold very well, so we got a new GE that the present owner is still using about 25 years later. The old dryer hung on and on, but one day, it tanked and we had a credit from a local appliance repair place and decided to use it to see if it could be fixed. It could have been, but no parts for it were available, so it went away at over 45 years old! Just before I sold the house, the 1997 Kenmore dishwasher started having problems at age 20. It turned out the water supply line was full of crud and we fixed that, but it was too late, the pump was gone, no parts were available, and I sold the house with the dead dishwasher. Now I live in an apartment, and I can predict my washer, a cheap GE will not survive much longer with the noises it's making. The landlord told me "two days at most" when it goes. He won't put one in ahead of time though. My only real complaint about my apartment is the really weak water pressure in both the kitchen and bathroom sinks. No luck getting the landlord to run new supply lines, which would solve it,as the bathtub/shower has plenty of pressure.

We've had kenmore washers and dryers for years. Sears has or had this deal if they come out three times and cannot fix it, they will kinda sorta pro rate the old washer and dryer. Then the washer starts acting up. same deal.Looked at the dryer motor and one of the attachments for the blower snapped off on the motor shaft. Went out in the garage and had the stub off in about 20 minutes. Called up sears and they won't work on it. Told them I have the motor in one hand and the busted stub in the other. No can do. So before they took both the dryer and washer away I took the stainless steel drum all 30 pounds of it and turned it into a fire pit. 3 screws held the back plate sits nice and flat. More holes than anyone needs. So I repurposed it. Open cage motor where the two halves are actually epoxied together. Frank

I personally don't want a washer that has WI-FI or an app. I just want my washer to wash clothes. We have a Maytag washer and dryer that are over 20 years old and have been problem free.

There is just too much tech stuff nowadays on just about everything.

Update and final resolve!

Quick timeline so you don't have to scroll through the thread again ;)

04/19/21 Ordered online (Lowe's).

04/22/21 Delivered.

04/25/21 Stopped working, sent request for service, appointment set by LG for 05/05/21.

04/30/21 LG called to verify appointment on 05/05/21.

05/05/21 LG Tech came, reset washer, washer turns, he said it works and to call again if error code re-appears. 10min later error code re-appeared. Called hotline, they want to text tech to turn around and fix, tech said ticket is closed will only work on open ticket, new ticket opened, service appointment set for 05/10/21.

05/10/21 LG tech (same guy) came, looked at it, told me he don't know what's wrong, asked me if parts are here that he ordered and I said no, he called his supervisor complaining about the parts department, I ask if he can just replace the whole unit and he said no, he ordered "all the parts" like his supervisor told him to. He also said he don't know when he will be back to install it, they are busy. I said good day and tech left.

After that I went to Lowe's and told them my problem, and they are taking the items back. Came home, unhooked them, loaded them, returned them, got a refund, picked a new set, loaded it, came home, installed it and now my clothes are already in the dryer.

I picked a Maytag set, but since they had a low inventory and I wanted large capacity units, it's also a more modern set. Yes, came with wi-fi and I didn't even realize it. I don't care. They were even more expensive than the LG set, but I got a 3yr service warranty with Lowe's so now I'll deal straight with them.

The washer runs way different, I think the LG was a Lemon.

But their bad customer service or lack thereof made me return the items and never look back. No more LG for me. I'll also return the LG TV I bought from Sam's Club. Just because!

That's it, that's the resolve. I will sent an ugly email to LG and I will send a very nice email to Lowe's. The workers there were really nice and helpful.

Also love our RAM, the units fit in the bed (5'7") and I could close the tailgate :)

How about the solar clothes dryer(clothes line)?

Those were probalya here before the rocks flattened out, that is if you count tree branches and fences.
I remember when we moved into a new house in 1949 my brothers gift was installing a clothesline with the posts made of drill pipe. The company that he worked for furnished the labor and material cost.

Sorry, OP. When we purchased our home a number of years ago, it came with all the appliances. W/D were/are Whirlpool...from 1995. Still running, great (knock on wood).

I had the idea about a year or two ago, well, maybe let's replace with something more modern, before there is an issue. Thought LG was top of the line (I should know better...), started researching reviews online and WOW...no thanks.

Not sure what I'll do when they eventually go; probably go commercial grade or Speed Queen (have to research that), because I do not want to spend my time on it.

I think I posted this before, but I have a friend who is a semi retired appliance repair man. He still does work now and then, but for himself, not a company.

Anyway, he's told me numerous times to stay away from LG, Samsung, and Braun appliances. Frequent break downs, hard to get parts, difficult to repair in general.

He recommends Maytag, Whirlpool, Kenmore, and other "domestic" brands. Which aren't really domestic anymore, but are easy to repair and easy to get parts for.

Like a lot of things, there are actually a limited number of manufacturers who make them, but they are sold under a lot of name brands.
