Looks fine to me. I have one like that and another in 2 1/2". Now you have to get some decent leather! You done well.

Python

I have had a 4" Python (new) since 1971. It is an amazing revolver. After thousands of rounds (full power) mine still looks brand new. In your photo the tag says $550. If you ever want to sell it for that price, I will take it. Don't feel bad you made an amazing purchase.

I own several S&Ws, which I really like. But there is NOTHING like a Python.

Enjoy!

P.S. I will be happy to meet you in Hell!!!

Thanks for the replies. Glad to hear I got a good deal then :) ...especially as I have just seen that every Python advertised on GI is well over $1K!!!

I still feel a little likme I am being unfaithful as the only modern handguns I have ever owned have been S&W.

I have a couple of old Colts (1861 Navy and 1849 Pocket Pistol) but I never considered them "real" guns..they are antiques and are to be looked at through the glass of my display cabinet..lol

Australia is the land for snakes. Good choice. Now you need a Diamondback, a Viper, a Boa, an Anaconda, a Cobra, a ...

Don't worry, hell ain't half full!

At that price you may want to have that thing checked out by a gunsmith. I would hate to hear later on you found out why it was such a sweet deal. But if it is just a fine shooter then you did indeed steal it. I have the high polish stainless model with the six inch tube but mine only came to me with Pach Grippers on it. Yuck. I'm not paying through the nose for factory originals so I'm thinking Altamonts might need to be ordered.

Thanks for the advice! It is actually coming from a gunsmith/dealer that I have dealt with quite a bit so I am pretty confident. His big sales come from Lee Enfields...sells hundreds of them. Occasionally he picks up handguns when he buys deceased estates etc so there are bargains to be had sometimes :)

I also had a good look at it for about 30 mins before putting down the cash. I always check them pretty thoroughly and always carry my little screwdriver set and bore light :)

Cheers

Unfortunately I only bought one of them when They were available. They were always very costly ,but worth it.
You really did well on the price.
I saw two at a local {out in the country} auction sell for $1900 and $2150. They were both pristine condition one was a 4 inch nickel ,other was 4 inch blue.
In my opinion the 4 inch is the best, but I will keep my 6 inch, and try to find one like yours -that is if I live long enough!!!!!

I feel dirty but I couldn' resist...they are another gun that we rarely see come up for sale in Australia...when I saw it for $550 (shooter grade with holster wear) I couldnt help myself :(

Forgive me

Mike
Are you going to hell?? Don't know-but you're already "down under" :D

Love my Python, even though it was born during Colt's darker days. Hard to find 'em anywhere in any condition...especially for those of us who don't buy on-line.

Sounds like you got an awesome deal. Congrats and enjoy!

:p I think you deserve a spot there too for that pun Cajun :)
If we put an aussie and a cajun together-we could rule the world-or at the very least conquer New Zealand :D
BTW can you get any of those Kangaroo Scrotum pouches ???? They would make wonderful little "possibles" bags.

I don't know where you are going but you should be in heaven now. A Python is the finest revolver ever made by anybody anywhere. I bought one in 1965 and carried it until last year and decided to give it to my son while I am still alive and can watch him shoot and enjoy it. My M27 should last me the rest of life but it ain't no Python. Larry

I highly doubt your going there, I hear that Michael the Arc Angel himself carries a Python! Only his is the 8 inch Hunter version.;) Dale

I am happy for you. I thought they banned guns in Australia, do you have to get a special permit?

Don't know about going to hell, I have heard if you buy too many Colts you'll go blind. If you find yourself needing glasses don't buy any more, it's time to stop.
Nice Find, Kevin

I doubt you'll be going to hell over that Colt! Don't be surprised if you wake up somewhere in Texas though. On second thought, maybe that only applies to Single Action Army revolver owners.

I do go to hell. In that place are all my friends. I have been born in Australia but left in a box when I was 18 months old.
And I do own a Python made in 1961. I can tell you that your grips are original. My Python have the same gripstyle.

You got a heck of a deal. 40 years ago I fell in love with the Python, but on cop's salary there was no way I could afford one.

I went with S&W and came to love and respect them. I would still like to have a Python, but even now, they cost more than I am willing to pay

You got a real winner at a great price.
