My lovely puppy Freya, who has been with me for 12 and a half years, just passed over the Rainbow Bridge.

Freya was a black doberman I got when she was 9 weeks old. We have been inseparable since. Two months ago she was diagnosed with terminal lung and stomach cancer. The vet said it would not be long and we would know when it was time to bring her in. She was a happy and frisky elderly dog until yesterday. Yesterday she didn't want to eat. Today she just lay in her crate and stated into space. Thanks to our. vet she went quietly and peacefully with Anne and I petting and talking to her.

It really hurts. A loving friend is gone
.
RIP Freya 1/3/08 5/12/20

Harrison, my friend

Been though it three times myself and I feel your pain. Will be going to do it within a couple of years. Keep your chin up and walk forward. Problem with us is we'll get another and repeat
the process!

I've said this before, but it bears repeating. Our furry, four-legged family members rely on us for absolutely everything, including knowing "when it's time". Take comfort in all the memories of your beautiful Freya, and in the knowledge that you did the right thing. MrsB and I send our heartfelt condolences.

Harrison, sorry for your loss.
I have always had multiple dogs. At least two, sometimes four, usually three. Has been this way since my late 20's. So for almost 40 years I have been acquiring, training, hunting, loving and losing dogs.
I always thought losing dogs would get easier with age.
Just the opposite has transpired. Seems my appreciation for them has only grown and the loss seems to only get larger with each one I have to say goodbye to.
Enjoy your warm memories of your beloved dog.

So sorry for your loss. Been there many times myself and every time I read that one of you are going through it, my heart breaks and I remember my "kids". Maybe it will help to remember you will be reunited with Freya on the other side.

So sorry for your loss. I lost my 2 girls, both raised from puppies; one in 2014 and again in 2015. They were both 10 years old at the time I lost them. Never thought I'd have any more, it just hurt too bad.

I retired Sept 2019 and my wife and I started talking about having a pet. We looked at several shelters and then one day we found "her". An 8 year old Basset/Beagle mix who had been picked up as a stray. Her name is Rhonda. She had been used for breeding. We went to the shelter every day for a week to visit and decided it was time. She has been a blessing to me and my wife. A few months later, my wife saw a picture of another male Beagle at another shelter. I talked her into going to take a look. He was a 10 year old, whose owner had passed away and was surrendered by the grandson. Took us 2 weeks to get him home, due to being treated for kennel cough. We went every day to visit and walk him until we could bring him home. His name is Buddy. They are such a joy, even though I know we may lose them both in about 5 years. Until then, we'll love them and enjoy them and treat them like our kids! Cherish your memories and in time, maybe you'll find another to care for and bring back some of the joy you once knew :-)

I know how it hurts. We lost our oldest bouvier about a month ago just short of her 13th birthday. It hurt so much I Couldn't write about it.But we have other dogs including a 8 month old female named Freya that my wife bred. So know Freya will always live in your heart.

I'm so sorry.

It's always tough to lose furry family members.
Time will heal, but that doesn't make it easier today.

I've lost a few good buddies over the years.
And yes, I've had to make that rough decision for a few.

I remember all of them very fondly though.
All the way back to my first little buddy that passed when I was 5, a rabbit named Thumper.

Every time I read a thread like this, it reminds me how great they all were.
And how great all my all the current little buddies are!
They'll all get an extra scratch tonight!

Just lost my ol' lab, Bella, about three weeks ago so I'm right there with you. My condolences. I figure Bella is running in the fields with her friends, Sid and Sammy, and maybe Freya is there with 'em. You did the right thing.
