I Killed a K frame

Bulged? Maybe. I have never seen a cylinder "warp" though. I'm not doubting your gunsmith, but, perhaps a second opinion is needed. And, I don't think a bulged cyliner would lead to hard opening and closing. Something else is up, possibly, very minor.

I can post pics but you would not see it you have to look at it turning and you can see the cylinder is warped when you turn it....I have never seen it before either...The only reason I trust this guy is because he has carried a Revolver as a cop since 1972 and has been a S&W armorer for 20+ years and a gunsmith for the same amount of time...He thinks the problem is a combo of gun age, metal urgy and number of rounds thru the gun He suggested sending it to S&W to be repaired or replaced...The gun was made in 1980 and has had who knows how many rounds thru it...I shoot it all the time I probably put 5,000 rounds thru the gun a year...I dont know how many rounds have been thru it before me getting the gun. The revolver is my favorite carry gun and shooter.. it has the nickle rubbing off in several spots, it shows that it is worn and carried a-ton...I dont think I ever leave the house with out it...UNTIL now...I qualified with my other carry gun 625 3" but there is nothing like my .357 K frame...

panamajack, be it is a 19-4, it should be a recessed cylinder. I dought S&W can do anything for you.

However if you are interesred in fixing it, I have a recessed cylinder. It's yours if you want it. Just email me your address and I'll send it to you.

Steve

VERY generous! Well done!

Steve, I appreciate the Cylinder...I just found a second problem I over looked...The forcing cone is split at the bottom and it is a BAD BAD crack....It actually bent the forcing cone...Telling me there was probably a hot round from the factory. UUUGGG this model 19 is screaming to be retired and put into a shadow box with my badge isnt it....Should I even send it to S&W to try to be fixed???

panamajack, Sorry to hear about the forcing cone. I used to have a 4" barrel. I'll look tomorrow and let you know.

Steve

Panama, I have a parts set for a model 19-4. Looks like there's everything but the cylinder, yoke, barrel and frame. If you need something, send me an email. I'm sure we can work it out.

I am not going to claim to be an expert here but I think I know what had occured on your revolver, and its an issue of timing. If your forcing cone is cracked, what may have happened is that for some reason, your cylinder was not in full lockup and when it fired, the bullet slammed partially into the side of the forcing cone pushing back against the cylinder, likely bending the yoke. This could be fixed with a new hand, yoke, barrel, and cylinder as long as the frame is not tweaked. I don't know without examining it but that is kinda what it sounds like.

Morgan, The yoke is not bent. the forcing cone is split at the very bottom of the barrel. and the timing on the gun is perfect..the cylinder is bulged out and back..it had a hot round that did it in..that is what all the evidence is pointing to.

SInce the model 19 has great sentimental value, I'd buy another model 19 that maybe needed bluing, etc, and rob the cylinder and barrel from it, and have the older gun rebuilt by a competent gunsmith, and maybe refinished by S&W. A cylinder and barrel might be found another way, but a "matching barrel and cylinder" from the same gun might make the smithing easier, and you could gauge the quality and suitablility before buying the secnod gun to canibalize.
