I LOVE a Kit Gun.

I too have a 4" Model 63. Original "no dash". Nice little lightweight gun. That said, lately I have been really enjoying playing with a snubby of another brand. The gun is chambered in .327, but I have been shooting .32 H&R Magnum wadcutters in it.

Nice low recoil 100 grain wadcutters that run 850 FPS out of a 4" gun, they are very easy and mild shooting in J frame guns. I find it may be the "Goldilocks" sweet spot between a rimfire J Frame and a .38 Snubby.

The rimfire J Frames tend to have triggers/actions that are on the heavy side, in order to make them reliable with the rimfire ammo. On the other end the .38 J frames can sometimes have a bit more recoil than is wanted.

The .32 seems like a good low recoil sweet spot between the two.

This week while doing my dad duties, I had a 442 .38 and a LCR 32 in the front pockets of my Filson when I drove and dropped the kids off at school each morning.

The .32 H&R Mag and .327 Mag I think would be a heck of a good cartridge all sorts for kit gun duties as well as other duties.

Skeeter Skelton wrote an article about "Trail Guns" in which he mentioned several of his favorites. At the end he wished for a J frame in .38 Special with a 4 inch barrel and adjustable sights. Unless I've missed something, we're still waiting for that one.

Smith has made a 3 in. target sighted mdl 36 first without underlug and later with full inderlug. They also made it in stainless (60-4)(38 Spl) which I have.........Never saw or read about 4 in. bbl..

There is a interesting little video near the bottom of this page on a that load vs 5 milk jugs of water.

Oh, John, thanks for posting that video.

I like that guy. He'd be a hoot to sit with and listen to with a sip of your favorite beverage -- coffee or whatever.

I know this is a J .22 thread, but here's a shot of one of my favorite Chiefs. 1968 Model 36. The guy I got it from in Montana bought it from his neighbor who bought it new in '68. The neighbor fired five rounds of .38 Super Police through it. I have the two boxes of ammo his neighbor bought the day he bought the Chiefs Special. There are five .38 Super Police missing.

I know it's not a 4" (which would indeed be pretty sweet), but when this 3" model 36-0 presented itself several months ago it suddenly became a "need". Just a perfect package, IMO.

Bought my first 63 in 1980, spit lead, ended up letting it go, then owned a 34, and another 63 round butt. They also left for something else. Anyway about 3-4 years ago, ran up on one at a local auction. Decided, no matter what it was going to be mine. Sits in my safe as I type this. Love those little guns and this one is never leaving.
