I love my wife but some things she just don't understand

My hunting cap is so old it still has the "made in USA" sticker sewn in it.
My old waxed cotton hunting coat is somewhere between 30 and 35 years old and when I leave it in the truck overnight when it is cold outside it will pretty much stand up in the corner by itself:D. To my horror I overheard my wife talking to my kids about getting dad a new hunting coat last year around my birthday
I quickly put a big NO on that one.

Maybe we should think of getting you a new hat.

Why? I asked.

Well, she replied, That one is getting kinda faded and weathered.

That is like what we used to refer to as reservation economy. "If YOU had some money, WE could have some beer".

Tell her if she wants a new hat you will be glad to buy her one. If she is ashamed to be seen with you, that's a different conversation.

I have a really nice..kinda...Carhartt coat. I used it for everything around the farm...out hunting some and just general winter wear. I will admit has seen better...much better days. she won't let me wear it in public. She bought me a new one...a real close duplicate...but it has a hood. Despise them. that's why they make hats...She has tried to pitch it...but I continue to wear it...even though I have to be careful putting it on and taking it off...It's only 40 yrs old

Reminds me.
A customer had a pair of cowboy boots made in Mexico when he was stationed in Texas.
He had to wear them wet at first to mold to his feet.
He only wore them on special occasions.
He came home one night to see his wife built a bonfire and his boots were it it.

I have a red wool hunting coat that belonged to my dad. Even the buttons are red. I was just pleased as could be when I grew up enough that I could wear it. The coat is probably 65 years old now. I'd better check my will to make sure it gets left to somebody rather than getting tossed.

My wife does not throw away any of my clothes . That would be unacceptable . I had a pair of jeans that she kept nagging me about but she knew better than to toss them . Finally she folded them and put them in the laundry room . I didn't really care about the jeans so I just left them there . It's been over a month and they are still there . I'll see how long it takes for her to mention them again . I like messing with her mind .

Women...our wives... really do live in a different world than men. Smell looks clean and if it is wool they really don't get it...it's scratchy and dirty let me wash it...never to be worn again. My wife pitched my old Stetson..worn misshapen best Hunting hat I ever had...it was an absolute bone of contention and she remembers.

Since it was no mistake my guess is that it was signalling a divorce.

My favorite golf hats seem to have a way of disappearing once they get that nice sweat ring in them. I just buy new ones, not worth the argument.

I had my favorite Army sleeping bag destroyed when it went into a commercial laundromat washer.
The old style cold weather bag with the feathers.
Seems the bag dis assembled it self at the seams.
Left a trail of feathers from the laundrmat to the car and from the car to the trash bin.
All my camping and hunting gear is OFF limits from anybody but me maintaining it.

Good hats, as they get old and misshapen, stained and tired, will restore very well when taken in by a business that understands how to reblock, etc. I've done this a number of times with my quality fedoras and panamas...

About 50 years ago I "requisitioned" an arctic parka from Uncle Sugar.

Over time it began to resemble a Jackson Pollock painting.

About 12 years ago and unbeknownst to me Ruthie decided to have it dry cleaned.

It didn't survive.

The marriage did.

Wifey doesn't throw my stuff away.

However! She has a talent for hiding my stuff. If I leave anything out in the open, she is the judge and jury about where it must immediately go.

In fact, if you stand still, she will put you in a closet!

I had a Filson waxed cotton hunting jacket. I bought it in the late 80's on sale for $250 (down from $399). Mostly I wore it for cool weather Sporting Clays. At around 35 years of age my wife decided to wash it, the entire left side went down the drain! I was very P.O.ed! For my birthday she replaced it with a Baurber Brand equivalent (two sizes larger for some reason). I went to buy a liner...$179! No Way! I had her sew buttons in all the right places and use a Army Field Jacket Liner that cost me $15.

I have known Mrs. Walnutred for about 48 or 49 years. She is an honest to goodness treasure! She was only fishing for ideas to buy a gift for "The man that has two of everything", so the grandkids could buy him a Father's Day present.
