So i save my receipts on all my purchase and i just added up all my .22 ammo purchase since January.

The total was over 1K in just ammo alone. That's enough for me to purchase a real AR!

I'm going to just chill for awhile and focus my ammo money on building a 5.56 :)

Going to start with a spikes tactical strip lower that i can buy for $125 and go from there. With all the messing around with my 15-22 i think i can build one from scratch.

The 15-22 truly is a training rifle enough for me to move on and build me a true AR now!

1k or 10k? If you can build a AR with what you spent on 1k.. either you payed WAY too much for your ammo or you need to hook me up with the links to a uber cheap AR build! :D

edit Ohhhh I get it.. you spent 1k ON ammo... der massive brain fart LMAO

I was thinking 1k rounds... hahaha you spent 1k on ammo? O.o

I hear what you're saying, on the other hand have you priced .223 lately? Then again, once you build your AR you'll always have it....

I'm kind of in the opposite place. I do want to get an AR, but with ammo still fairly high, I wouldn't be able to shoot it that much if I bought now. So I think I'll wait a while and hopefully prices will continue to fall. Given the price difference between .22 and .223/5.56, I think that I'll always shoot the 15-22 more than an AR.

I did notice on a site that I check fairly regularly that they have more ARs in stock now than I've seen since the beginning of the year. Hopefully that means you can find parts for your build without too much trouble at fair prices.

Have fun with your build!

Are you inferring you cannot build a quality AR for $1K???

I did the same thing. I'm in the middle of a build right now simply because i couldn't find any .22 ammo. Pawn shop down the street has Federal 5.56 for 40 cents a round though. The centerfire will be more expensive to shoot for sure. but like it was said before, once you build it, you'll have it for when the craze dies down.
Besides, I'm having almost as much fun building one as i do shooting one!

I finally kicked the habit last month. I've bought around 20,000 rounds of 22LR since January and have spent around $750.

You cant build an AR right now for a grand. You can buy one already built for that though. I highly recommend an M&P-15.

i just got a flyer from a local gun store.....m&p sport,223,magpul rear site,16 '' barrel........739.00.

20k?? I thought I bought a lot! Let me add up what I've bought so far this year...

Not just 22 but just locally I've bought 1410.48 before tax worth of ammo.

Add up the stuff from cabelas and the mag and other purchases I've made and I've spent well into $2600+ on firearms stuff since January.

Double edit: added it all up. I've spent 5365.11 on firearms purchases since Jan...

Sophie look for the M&P Sport with the 1/8 5R barrel. I saw one on broke gunner from NY for $650 a couple of nights ago. It was a compliant model but you can change that since you live in texas.:) It is super accurate and you will like it. Put the extra money in your optics.:D

Well I'm like a Crack addict..... I can't stop buying .22LR ammo and shooting my 15-22. I can shoot for hours on my home range spending under $50. To me it's all the same -- shooting a .22, 9mm, .40S&W or a real .223 AR - I get the same satisfaction feeling a bit of recoil and smelling burnt powder. At .60-.75 cents per round my .223 ARs will only come out occasionally. In the mean time I will wear out my M&P 15-22 and M&P 22 shooting CQB and mid-range targets. I'll get my fix with the real guns when the county pays for my ammo during qualification - otherwise its .22LR at .5-.8 cents per round.

I don't know what I've spent on other calibers (9mm, .40, 223/5.56). And I'm not man enough to add it up. I don't wanna know. I could've bought a few more guns though.

I plan on going over $1k for the parts that i want:
Spikes Tactical strip lower-$125
CMMG Lower Kit-$125
Magpul Buffer Tube with Stock-$100
MP15T Complete Upper-$800

Total:$1150 ;)

So i think it would be a win/win having a .556 and a .22 AR to go shooting with.

Dont get me wrong i love my 15-22 especially with the slidefire stock on it, but i think if i can spend this much on ammo why not spend it on another rifle that i built myself instead of buying one off the shelf.
