I messed up with an impulse buy

I've been kicking myself all day. I get carried away by nice guns too easily Anybody else have that problem?

Stop kicking! It's only money!

I think of the extra $100 I spend occasionally as the extra incentive to pay more attention in the future on similar things and hold out if they really aren't that important. Unfortunately, guns and motorcycles are often exempt from this theory...

Only 700.00, that would get snagged in minutes in this state!! Good handgun...

Dear S&W owners support group, (SWOSG?)

Thank you kindly! I'm now determined to hunt up a good deal on another Smith to offset the extra this ones costing.

I'll post some pics of the 57 when I get it (darn waiting period).

If this makes you feel better I was at Cabelas in Hammond IN. Sat. they had a 8 3/8 Mod.57-1 for $919 with just a cardboard box. I have a 4" and a 6" P&R that I paid around $650 for. In Illinois where I live thats a fair price.

If it makes you feel better, I posted Saturday about a 24-3 Lew Horton .44 special I bought from a friend for 700.00 as well. Bad part is that I gave him 100.00 and owe him the rest. It'll kill me until I get him paid off, and it may take awhile, but every time I pick it up and realize that it is still BRAND NEW I just get all giggly. Don't worry, it'll all get better in time. In six months, it won't matter what you paid. Just enjoy it. I keep telling myself that and I probably will until I pay him off.

Great gun, those 57's...Congrats !! , and just remember when it comes the time when... "Ma, come put these guns in the ground, I can't use them anymore", you can sell it at a profit, or if you happen to sell it at a loss, so what, just think of the small price you paid to have the use and fun with that 57 over the years !! I say use it, enjoy it, and don't look back !!

My name is moon, and I constantly spend too much on guns.

Sir:

You have performed a great service to me in that I can now justify the purchase of another M-57 at any price equal to or lower than what you paid. All I have to remember is that J. Galt:

"told the local dealer I'd take the six inch 57 no dash he had for $700! It is used but pretty pristine, although it doesn't even have the original grips. "

I was wondering how I was going to justify another one should it appear, now I have the perfect justification.

Thank you for your sacrifice and example. I certainly appreciate it.

Some years ago I bought a NIB Model 520 here in California for the outrageous price of $440 and worried for months that I overpaid.

Today I have a very big smile on my face every time I play with it !

You did not "mess up" ! Just consider that you may have overpaid by say two weeks worth of STARBUCKS and forget about it !

I look forward to seeing photos. I am also a sucker for N-frames !

You did'nt pay too much if you hold on to it for a while and enjoy it. I've paid too much before. What I do is estimate what my collection is worth and divide it by how many guns I own. If you have a quality collection, the number you come up with should leave you smiling.

Price is totally dependant on preference and desire. If you wanted it, and your happy with the gun, don't worry what you paid for it, just enjoy it.

Life is to short and friends to few, not to enjoy them while you can.

we probably all have done it,i know i have and every time i pulled it out i wondered if i made a mistake.then my next buy was a s&w 45 cal. army pre-22,all original,98%for 250.00.might happen to you too.if it is nice and you like it thats all that matters.

Earlier this year, I bought an all matching numbers P.08 for $700. A little research showed that the gun was valued at about $2200, which means I saved $1500. Naturally, I went out and spent the $1500 on 3 Smiths that I "needed". See how this works?

Anybody else have that problem?

Send it to CA - you'll get your money back in about a day!

Whenever you overpay for a gun, just remember that OTHER deal where you got such a good price you could have been charged with theft!
My last overpay was a gun worth $400 that I paid $600 for. But then I traded that gun a couple of months back for a pristine no-dash 696!

See, it all works out.

Another way to look at the question....

You take your wife out for a nice dinner and it costs $100. The next day you flush the remenants! A week later she forgot about the nice dinner, and you're on her bad list over muddy boots, falling asleep at church, or something such,

This way, the $100 extra is still in the gun.
