Wife & daughter left the house for a week and tasked me with putting in a new bathroom floor. I was told to get a new throne - they wanted an elongated bowl rather than a round one.
I'm in Lowe's trying to pick one out and WOW! Do I get the Excelsior with 5 star flushing or maybe the Kelston. No-wait what about the Cimmaron, the Espree or the Perfecta????? With so many 5 star flushers out there, why in the world would one buy one of the two 4 stars flushers they had on display???. DO I get a one piece or two piece model??? Do I go with the "Quiet Close" seat or the "Quick Release" seat (which begs the question why in the wide world of sports would one need a quick release seat on their throne). The wife and daughters have nixed a horse shoe seat :( . Should I search out used to get a pre 94 model with the full 3.5 gallon BA-WHOOSH or does the new technology work with just one gallon?. Although the time spent sitting is relatively short-it IS what I consider "Quality time" and thus I don't want to wind up with a "High Point" when I ought to have a "Smith & Wesson". I'm leaning towards the Cadet 3 low profile one piece with standard seating and 5 star vortex flushing capacity by American Standard-but I welcome any suggestions

Al Bundy recommended a Ferguson, with a 3 gun rack and 4 roll holder. The ultimate man's throne.

Kohler used to have the "Artist Edition" they send the "throne" to a well known artist for some fancy paintings ..... Lead time in the 90's was around 6 months. We used to sell a lot of them to the Japanese Builders back then.

You have indoor plumbing?

We have AS Cadets.(copyrighted, trade mark of American Standard Inc) They are OK but sometimes need a double flush depending on, well you know.

If I had to redo the plumbing again, I would get the kind that have the turbo charge, power boast gizmo in the tank. Just don't be sitting down when you pull the handle.

As with cars, there's no replacement for displacement.

Consumer Reports rates the American Standard Champion 4 as the best.

The Kohler Complete Solution Cimarron is right *behind* it.

There were two Kohlers in my house in Illinois and the fill assembly broke on one... Replacement cost was around 100 bucks. So I ended up with a cheap replacement valve and a little tubing to get the "swirling" flush action. Would go with the most generic and the cheapest hardware.

My problem is the fact that some seem so TALL. I'm not short, but I AM short legged. Feel kinda silly with my feet all but swinging back and forth while I sit there. Just a suggestion, Caje, don't know your height, but just saying that you need to look at ALL the variables before this all important purchase.

Always think about the 'open front'. That way,
you can practice with the lid down, and she'll
never know.

We were looking to replace ours and the plumber recommended a Mansfield ADA rated (for disabled) 5 star. It's Tall, Elongated has a non-plug throat. Nuff sed.;)

We got two of them and have been well pleased.

BTW, ours have automatically closing seat and lid. Touch it to get it started and it slowly drops by itself.

There is now peace in the valley for meeee!!!

Can't go wrong with a Kohler or Am. Std. Get the 'power flush" feature with the one gallon type and all will go down just fine. Also elongated and especially, the higher seating position (easy up, easy down).

I too am short legged (I'm also short-5'7" ). You're correct that hight IS critical and I already took it into account-nothing higher than 15" That way you get a firm foot plant.

Man-if I ever win the lottery, I just want to design 3 things in my house-the workshop/boat shed/garage/outside kitchen, my inside home office/walk in gun room and the head :D The wife can have at everything else. ;)

FWIW, the quiet-close seats are great at 3am when the lid slips... and the quick-release makes it much easier for the little lady to keep things clean in there. :-D

Go back into Lowes and ask if you can test drive all models and watch their expression. Our Lowes has all of the stools on the second shelf up sitting at an angle for a better view. The kid, or sales associate, (politically correct), just gave us that deer in the headlight look.

About five years ago, i replaced everything in the house with Lowes American Standard on sale. No complaints from the women and they work fine.
