This is my first post; hope I'm in the right place.
I purchased a S&W chambered for 32 Long; I believe it is a J frame but have no idea about the year or model. On the right side there are three small head screws: one just front and above the trigger below the cylinder (in front of this it reads Made in USA), the second just behind the trigger, and third above the grips rear of the hammer; also one slightly larger head screw just in front of the hammer. On the left side below the cylinder release is the trade mark S&W mark; between the mark and release is what looks like a pin and to the rear of the mark is a smaller pin, the release itself has the screw in front of the checkered portion. The grip panels are black plastic with the S&W logo at the top, the trigger and hammer are what looks to be plain steel while the frame, cylinder and barrel are chrome or nickel due to some pealing in a few spots; also the frame has a pin just above the threaded portion and the forcing cone has a flat bottom. The serial # is 491XXX. Now here is the problem: somebody thought it was a good idea to cut the end of the barrel off, so now there is no front sight and it is very inaccurate. I would like to know exactly what model I have; the year it was made and where to find a barrel for it and how to know it is the right one for my gun.
