With all the talk on high capacity, I decided to upgrade my Shield to 16 rounds.

Actually, if you live in NY, the 8 round mags will be "high capacity" under the new law.

Stupidity abounds in this country today. :(

New York Legal Limit

What you have pictured/posted is the legal limit here in New York. One may have a 7 round magazine plus one chambered in the gun, and have only one addition 7 round magazine on your person. Anymore is a crime. It's back to Commander type pistols, subcompact pistols, and revolvers here.
**One phrase I am getting sick of hearing here is: NOBODY NEEDS MORE THAN** Like we can't decide for ourselves what we want or need.

If anyone is interested in the Desantis magazine pocket pouch, I purchased it from LA Police Gear on the internet.

I am a little uneasy attaching a link after I got pistol whipped today for copying a news article (I gave credit to the publisher) in the Lounge entitled "Our we losing our will to live"

I guess we need to be careful using copy right articles.

I would recommend you google and include our we losing our will to live Jan 29 and the word Today in the search. (Today newspaper article)

Every person on both sides of the gun debate should be required to read this article. It really got me thinking especially when the author discussed the Ford Theater shooting and Lee Harvey Oswald.

I promise you it is worth your time to search out the story and if anyone has an answer to the "why" after reading the article please enlighten the rest of us. (You will understand what I am talking about after you read this thought provoking article)

Promise this is not your typical gun ban article.

I feel for you folks in New York, but I bet we won't be far behind. I live in a conservative part of California, and I'm hearing questions from citizens everyday on whether or not we'll be knocking on their doors in the future. I keep telling them that it's not likely.

Yeah, nobody NEEDS more than ** any more than Rosa Parks NEEDED to sit at the front of that bus!

Awesome article Russc

I am glad you searched out the story. "Have we lost the will to live"

I especially found the example of serial killers and individuals like Lee Harvey Oswald who had the desire to stay alive after they murdered thought provoking unlike recent killers like the most recent at Sandy Hook Elementary who lost the will to live.

I also found it alarming that every 14 minutes a person commits suicide and that there are millions taking anti depressant drugs.

I try not to talk religion on this forum but the words from the good book came to my mind as I read the article that "men's hearts shall fail them" (loose hope)

I believe when a person has lost that will to live they have lost all hope and their heart has failed them and the end result is unspeakable violent acts as the article pointed out occurs when you loose that natural instinct for self preservation and I will add that no law will counter a person in this state of hopelessness because they don't fear the punishment associated with violating a law.

I thought you could only load 7 into whatever mag you had?

As I understand the NY 7 round law if you own a magazine currently which holds more than 7 but not greater than 10 (greater than10 was illegal before new law) you can only load up 7. However, from my reading an owner of such a magazine must sell the magazine or dispose of said magazine outside the state of New York within 1 year.

Considering most semi automatic handguns are made for more than 7 rounds there is the possibility the indirect consequence would be a semi automatic ban if a 7 round magazine is not available.

I would imagine more popular handguns like Glocks will have available 7 round magazines but less popular or older model semi autos I could see in NY could become illegal to own due to the fact a 7 round magazine is not offered.

This law will eventually end up in the Supreme Court but in the mean time not good if you live in New York especially if you own a semi auto handgun which holds more than 7 rounds.

Nope. You can keep the 10 round mags for as long as you own the
Gun. What must be sold within a year is the currently legal over 10
Round mags made before the ban. 10 round mags can be loaded with 7 rounds

Not exactly. 10 rounders are grandfathered in for those who already have them. 1994 Pre-ban magazines in excess of 10 rounds must be disposed of or pinned within the year. Of course only 7 rounds allowed in the magazine.

I wondered where they got the magical number "7" from. Could it be because Kimber is made in Yonkers, NY. Nothing wrong with a 1911, but multiple assailants sometimes demand more rounds. One reload may not be enough.

Since there are not many firearms that have these mythical 7 round magazines, it would seem like a prelude to a total gun ban. After April no new firearms with more than 7 rounds will be sold to civilians. Looks like the Shield is going to be even harder to get. S&W only needs to ship them here with two seven rounders.
