I picked up a new, to me, model 547 9mm revolver today.

I have heard of the S&W model 547 9mm revolver, but have never seen one before today. I stopped by the GLS that refers people to me for tactical training and they had one that had just come in. It is the 3" round butt, with the original serial numbered box, and in 99+ % condition. For some reason I have always wanted a 9mm revolver and this seemed perfect. Any opinions are welcome. I will try to post a few pictures tomorrow.

Here is mine. I have only shot it once and it was awsome. I will post a picture since every thread needs one

Seems kind of diminutive for a fella name Tackelbarry ;)

Just kidding....I hear that they are great shooters. I'm kind of sad that I sold mine without ever having taken it to the range.

Enjoy your new revolver and if you take it to a range be prepared to answer a few questions!:D

I have a at least 90% 3" no box or tools. Its a very good shooter. Seems to me that the kick is a lot less than with a bottom feeder 9MM, but that is a subjective opinion.:)

I have more than enough carry guns so this one is for me a range only gun. It took me a bunch of years to find one in my northern NY area but the wait was well worth it.

The 547s are neat little revolvers. I had two 3" guns years ago. The first, purchased when they were in production, had a pinned barrel. The second, purchased years later, did not. That unique extractor worked very well, even with high pressure 9MM ammunition, no sticky extraction, etc.

Does yours have a pinned barrel? Looks like it might. One of my 4" does but I haven't seen a 3" with one.

When I got home today I looked and yes it does have a pinned barrel.

I heard the French State Police had a bunch of these back in the late 60's early seventies. It was my understanding that S&W actually made these guns per the French request. I might be wrong? But a pretty cool gun. Wish I had one.

No. They were make like 80 or 81 for a couple of years.
