Bought a Governor over the weekend.

I know people say they're useless and stupid, but if I want one, I'm gonna buy it- even if it's stupid :) That's 'Merica for you!

Haven't shot it yet, but it's brandy new.

Been watching them for a while now, seen two pop up in the last year, never had the money... Then prices went up a little... saw one show up last week for $820 at a local shop, missed it- One ironically popped up at Cabelas when I was looking for a Ruger Single six, and it was $809 which I know is pretty much what they're going for anywhere... so I took the plunge and bought it.

I had to pay half on the credit card but I didn't know when I'd find another one, so I'll bite the bullet and pay the credit card off in a couple weeks.

I know Gun broker has them for less now and then, but with shipping, taxes, and transfer fees at my FFL, it's cheaper to buy locally. Plus it was nice to get the box, moon clips, and literature which is often missing with used guns, and I know this one hasn't been holywooded a thousand times.

I have like 8 or 10 boxes of the Federal 000 buck handgun defense .410 and a ton of other .410 and I love that it takes moon clips with 45 acp as well.

Can't wait to get out and shoot it!

Congratulations on your new S&W Governor. That
is one Unique Revolver. You can load .410 shotgun
shells, 45Colt, 45APC in it.

I’ve always thought that would be handy out at
the Farm. Someday I’ll get one. Currently dispatch
the Raccoons, Skunks, and Gophers with a Mossberg
pump .410.

The Best to you and your Endeavors. Please give a
Range Report when you shoot it.

Congrats, very cool. guys at range getting pretty good accuracy with 45 colt. Not match accuracy but pretty good.

Yeah, I need to find some 45 colt ammo though... Have plenty of 45 ACP which is another reason I like the governor.

Yeah, dumbest gun S&W ever built, too big, ungainly, unbalanced. At least that was what I said until I got one. Turns out they're the best thing going for carrying on the mesquite farm; I've shot several skunks at 15 yards with #8s. Not sure it is the optimal "defense firearm" but it sure works great for pests and finishing off the occasional larger game. Great gun, enjoy it.

I hate to admit, that may be part of the reason I wanted it. Everyone seems to hate on these and the Judge.

I’m one of those guys. I’ve fired a Judge a few times with 2-1/2” .410 skeet loads. I wouldn’t say I hated it, but I couldn’t see ever buying one. Sounds like 22hipower’s story. :o

I reacted the same way when all the 6.5 Creedmoor hoopla really got going. Now I have one, and I enjoy shooting it, but I still don’t see much revolutionary about it. I enjoy shooting just about anything.

The gun industry is always trying to sell us something - and most of the time we’ll willingly buy it! :D

to me it's more of a novelty "I wanted it cause it's ridiculous" type gun :) I don't buy many ridiculous guns, mostly they have to perform and serve some purpose... Well, maybe not LOL

Congrats on getting another knocked off your list; it's a great feeling when that happens. I really like your matte stainless model. I've owned the blue model since '13 and love it. It's my sidearm of choice when woods-walking for exercise and also my coyote-hunting side arm.

Mine has a night-sight from the factory but can't tell if yours does or not? I also carry mine in a great black leather holster with 6 ammo loops on the outside. Got it on Amazon a month after I got the Governor and have used it ever since: [ame]https://www.amazon.com/Pro-Carry-Belt-Ranch-Governor/dp/B0083TZYYM/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=sw+governor+holster&qid=1642096979&sr=8-4[/ame]

It's a great holster and has held up well these last 9 years getting banged around.

I also picked up a nice 5 Star Arms speedloader for .410 :Speed Loading - .410/.45 Caliber - S&W Governor Accessories - 5 Star Firearms

Hope you enjoy yours too!

And most of all, who CARES what others think of your Governor! You wanted it, you got it, go shoot it!

Mine does not have a night sight- it is just a ramp like a J frame. It is a "Mass Complaint" model- I think only the stainless ones are Mass compliant. not sure why. Sucks that the manufacturer is in Mass and has to jump through hoops to sell in its home state... That's why they're moving to another state. and taxes. etc.

On the order of those humongous .45-70 revolvers. Seemed like a good idea at the time. But if that’s what you want go for it.

I do a bit of canoe camping

On the many rivers here in eastish NC, and i see this type of revolver often. It really is a great choice for us river rats.

Congrats! You'll like it. I thoroughly enjoy mine. Makes a nice companion piece to my RIA single shot .410.

Congrats!!

I don't think you can shoot 45 ACP in it. You'd need full or half moon clips and there's not enough headspace for them.

Yes you can. I've run 2 each of the .410, .45 COLT and .45 ACP loaded into the cylinder. The moon clips are intended for the .45 ACP. Works just fine.
