Deactivate allows you to return. Delete requires you setup a new account.
 
For whatever it's worth,the fb group I use sometimes to trade and look for guns was up and running two minutes ago.
 
I really enjoy Facebook. Two of my kids are in college in another town and its nice to see the pictures they post. I've reconnected with cops and pals I worked with all over the country. It took me a little while to warm up to it, but I'm glad I did.
 
i have facebook as it is easier to keep up with relatives that live on the other coast...and...

about 2 hours ago, a guy posted a 550 rd unopened box of federal lr hollow points for sale at $20. he lived within 3 miles...i was there and back in 20 minutes...

Had even a passing desire to be part of Face book. I have personally seen it cause family's to fall apart, lifetime friendships to be dissolved, and don't get me started on the disgusting things (photos) some people post.

Business' that tell you to "like" them to get a discount...I try not to support them. Keeping in touch with family/friends? What happened to the telephone, and USPS?

I may get flamed for my post, but that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

One of my brothers lives in a very rural area on Maryland's Eastern Shore. (That's the part of our state that lies between the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean). He doesn't own a computer, and transacts business the same way we all did 40 years ago. He writes checks to pay his bills, watches the television to get his news, etc. Does it work? Yes, but in this day and age it ain't the most efficient way to stay connected.

I like the immediacy and efficiency of Facebook. And it's great for communicating as a community. I belong to several fire service-related groups on FB, and just recently got some detailed information from a source there about my great-grandfather, who was also a Baltimore firefighter. In 2013 my high school classmates organized a joint 60th birthday party/reunion through Facebook. And just yesterday, a little girl who was missing here in Maryland was located in North Carolina through an Amber Alert posted on Facebook.

Yeah, it can be redundant, but it also offers advantages no other internet entity does.

it's so much easier to instant message someone that is 3 hours behind...i usually talk to my aunts who are in tuscon, arizona and ranier washington late at night...when everyone else in my house is asleep. i was just talking to my aunt in washington a few minutes ago. it's nice to be able to hold a conversation(not possible with USPS) and not wake the wife and kids because i am talking on the phone...

it's all in how you use it...if you want to start, or be a part of, drama on facebook, chances are it would have happened eventually anyway...

I'm going to guess they'd censor most anything if they were convinced it came with a significant risk of bad press and expensive litigation. As would many businesses.

I guess the point I've really been trying to make all along is that if you like FB and enjoy using it then I say go for it. But FOR ME I have no use for it or interest in it. Never have. Never will. Perhaps mine is a simple existence but I get along just fine like I've been doing. Perhaps I'll jump all over the next fad that comes along I can't say. Face Book just doesn't have anything I want, need or have any interest in.
 
They are in a tough spot. One of their outfits allows classified postings and a teenager bought a gun and shot someone. They are under a lot of pressure. I do not believe they are in bed with anti-gun groups but they are catching hell for "unregulated sales" of guns. So as a compromise they are making some restrictions. Unfortunate, but I think FB had little choice. Besides, if the site was indeed being used by people not allowed to buy guns to buy guns, we don't favor that continuing do we?
 
Never had a FB account myself, so its of little matter. BUT I do find it interesting that the Anti-2nd crowd is trying to infringe on our 1st Amendment too!

I can't quite Facebook... I was never interested in it in the slightest. I don't care what somebody's cat did yesterday, nor would most Facebook users be interested in my reading about top pan fed machine guns.
 
I was going to join a few years ago, but backed out when they asked if I wanted to include a 2nd email account I never told them about. Bothered me as to how they found it. Not that I want to keep it secret, I just thought it was a little too big brother-ish.
 
Not meaning to be mean but then again I don't Facebook, twitter, twoot or what ever else that mess is. I'm not in to show and tell. I'm too dang old and ugly to send pics at 75. Folks' like to talk about all the friends they have on this or that program. I remember what Will Rogers said in his day and a good one to reflect on. If you are blessed enough to leave this old world claiming to have had one or two real friends you've been blessed beyond compare in my opinion. Facebook folks' there is a BIG difference between friends and acquaintances . compadres! My grandchildren always pump this latest greatest Facebook stuff etc. at me and my reply to them is I have an email account use it if you wanr to talk or phone.. But they don't. The family is all in Texas and I migrated to TN 25 yrs ago. Remember the George Strait song All my exs' live in Tx and now I reside in Tn. Caught a lot of flak about that song when I moved here and remarried. Oh well whatever trips their triggers I reckon. As for me my favorite thing at my age now is to hang out on this forum with all you dysfunctional clowns. Works for me. Popper!
