I can't blame anyone but myself for this brain fart. The State of KY gave me notice that my permit (renewable every 5 years) would expire this month, way back around Christmas. My wife wrote out the checks to the proper places and for the proper amount the day the noticed arrived. I decided to wait until the holidays were past and things settled down, "Heck, I've got plenty of time".

I've been a permit holder since the beginning of it's inception, back in the mid 90's. I've renewed it several times, it's a simple thing to do. I just procrastinated. Boy do I feel neckid.

My permit expired 4 days before I went in to renew it. Cost me $15 bucks extra, and they took my expired permit. Neckid-neckid-neckid I tell ya!!!

The Deputy that helped with the process was nice enough to tell me that I can still carry a firearm inside my vehicle, or open carry, just not concealed. :(

Ya'll pay attention now, don't let it happen to you! I have to wait 4-6 weeks for the new permit to arrive. Dang! What a dummy!

I feel your pain. I accidentally let mine expire and it took me forever to find time to get to the courthouse and to the police station for prints. It took right at six weeks to get to me, it showed up the other day.

LOL you'll be just fine, don't look Ethel !! I'm just taking the IL class tomorrow, wanted to wait for the rush to clear and glad I did the class price is now about half of what it was when they started them last year, kinda excited to be able to carry. You'll still have yours back before I get one in this poor state.

One more benefit to a lowly retired LEO here in VA - lifetime permit!

As long as you qualify every 12 months....How come you have to qualify every 12 months under the LEOSA but not to carry on a CPL???

Indiana is a life time permit if you stay out of trouble. Cost is $100.00 and no extra schooling or classes needed.

mine expires in january of 2016. i can walk into the county sheriff's office and walk out with the new one if i let it expire.

The idea here, is to bring in your $80 (for 5 years) and use your current permit while they are taking a month to do what ever it is they do to print another one. Don't wait until the last month to do it. Check your card guys and gals. Don't run around neckid like me. "Don't look Ethel", now that takes me back to a time when you didn't really feel neckid without a weapon. What was that......mid 70's? Funny stuff. :D

Renewal

Here in Virginia they don't send you any renewal notice. You gotta remember to renew it all by yourself. I've come close to being without a permit once when I let it slide.

An uncomfortable feeling.

If I maintain my LEOSA certification in VA there should be no problem. Fortunately my former agency looks out for retirees, setting out a day each summer for us to get qualified.

I went in the week before my expiration date. I expected a quick turnaround at the counter. No... it had to be mailed to me.

Seem to me that a renewal within the valid dates should immediately allow for an extension that covers THEIR flow time...

Happened to me...I just hid in the house until the new permit came. Not really of course. I could have just carried anyway since the new one was coming soon and I have never been questioned about my concealed gun in the past forty years. I survived.

We don't get any notice here either. A couple years ago I had back surgery and couldn't make the walk and wait at the county courthouse to renew it. I quit carrying it when it expired but for some reason I looked at my permit again and I was mistaken and it had a year to go yet. I was sure to get in well before it did expire so I wouldn't be without it again.

Lesson noted, in advance. Thanks!
I should have my first CHP around July 7th, if the state of NC abides by their own 90-day rule.
