jmace57,
Thank you, and that sounds about right because I bought it used about 1966 and it is in great condition. Tell me something, How can I tell if mine is a K22-2, K22-3 K22-4 etc etc. Thanks again for your expertise.
Hi Sir the dash numbers you are asking about would refer to engineering changes after they became model marked. Yours was not yet model marked so K 22 would be right.
Does yours still have a screw in front of the trigger guard ?
I think a 1960 K-22 should have been stamped MOD 17 just above where you see the SN stamped in the yoke cutout. This would also be where 17-1, 2, etc. would be seen. Randomly, some guns missed having a model number or other marks stamped.
Paul,
Yes it does have that screw in front of the trigger guard. What does that indicate? Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but I just now got back on the forum and saw your post.
Oh Murphy Dog, It does not have Mod. 17 on the gun at all. It has Smith & Wesson on the left side of the Bbl. and 22 Long Rifle ctg on the right side of the bbl. I will take the grips off to see what is under there in a few minutes.
Took grips off. Same Ser# on bottom of frame and 5 more numbers stamped in side of frame under grip. ALso a single 6 and a single letter G
