I want a 29...

Ok, I got my new 29 classic (6.5") today from the FFL. The trigger is terrible and I'm guessing it's about 15 pounds. There's also a bit of a finish issue as the lock flag is stick up along the side of the trigger about 1 to 1.5mm bove the frame so there is little shiny silver sliver of metal visible at all times.

I tried engaging and disengaging the lock hoping it would sit lower but it doesn't.

I'll call Smith in the morning and send it in for an action job and have that corrected. I was all excited to shoot it but not until they address the horrible trigger and that lock flag hanging out above the rim.

Does smith take care of outbound freight on a brand new gun? If not, I may just remove the flag and have my local smith do a full action job on it and call it good.

Where's the pictures?

Lol, you caught me. I'll post tonight. I picked up on the way home and didn't have a chance. It's going back to Smith after a conversation on the phone about the trigger and the lock flag sticking up. Fortunately they are sending me a tag so it is no cost to me.

Man that sucks. I read more and more about issues with new production guns lately. Hope they fix it up nice and send it back soon for you to enjoy.

Ok, now they all have matching outfits...

I turned my new 29 classic back around to Smith within a couple of days of receiving it because the trigger was very difficult to pull, very gritty, and the cylinder was difficult opening/closing -- especially closing. I had to manipulate the cylinder a good bit to get it to close up. I never did fire it...

I just got an email that they are going to replace the gun and it has to go to an FFL since it is a new serial number. I guess I'll have to pay the FFL transfer fee but at least they paid the shipping both ways.

I suspect it will be another couple of weeks before it gets back. I'll post up when I get it.

I too LUST for a 29-2, 6 or 6.5" barrel. I dont care about the box or tools...I just want it very clean, and straight. I've been looking for a few years now, and have watched the prices slowly rise on them. I'm always checking local gun shops for recent trades. Someday hopefully. It's honestly my Holy Grail gun. And yes, I intend to shoot it plenty.

I'm looking for a 29 6.5" and I don't really want to spend a grand. Is it possible to get a bit of holster wear but otherwise great condition pre-lock for 750 or so?

A couple months ago I picked up a 629S 4" Mountain Gun for $945 after fees. They are out there for a reasonable price but $750 would be a steal.

Yes, they are for sue out there. The fastest way is to make it a habit whenever you travel around to stop by remote outdoor stores. You'll end up with a suitcase full. In those smaller places away from big cities $750 will get a very nice late model 29-4 or even 5 or 6.

If you reload, even better. Then you can get a model 57 in 41 magnum. They are out there in way smaller numbers but usually lay on the shelf also longer. Very cool and same performance to the 29 from my experience.

On this forum we have many regular shooters and competition shooters but I think the majority of our countrymen love to own a gun or 2 but end up not shooting it much or even at all. All my pre-lock Smiths where bought unfired or one box fired and put away. Bottom line is, hold out a bit and you will find...
